This was the first of the Tranna stores and opened in Jan 2008. Due to its popularity a further two Trannas have opened in the Pretoria region - one in Wonderboom and the other in Centurion.
Tranna is not a traditional Indian Restaurant in terms of décor. There are no ornately decorated elephants, heavily jewelled gold ornaments, or bright outrageous colours - symbols which one has come to associate with Indian cuisine! Here you will find a fresh, more contemporary approach. Muted tones abound even in the abstract murals and artwork that decorate the interior. However, the overall effect is both soothing and pleasing, and provides a tranquil background in which to enjoy this immensely appealing cuisine.
Focusing on North Indian dishes, there is any endless variety of combinations from which to choose - Tandoori, Breyani, lamb/beef/chicken/prawn Curries, as well as a host of vegetarian dishes to tempt the palate. If bread is your weakness, then the Naan bread is for you. Besides being available in several varieties with different toppings and fillings, the Naan bread comes in a satisfyingly large portion!
A few recommendations on the menu: For starters try the Dhal soup with your favourite Naan bread, the Onion Bhajiya, or the Mixed Tandoori platter for 2 (if you really want to spoil yourself!). For those who love to spice things up a bit, the Chicken or Lamb Vindaloo (with whole red chillies) will certainly do the trick, and the Chicken Madras runs a close second. Vegetarians will relish the vegetable Biryani or the Navrattan Curry with its creamy cashew nut sauce.
Travelling West from Pretoria on N4 then take exit 11 for M10/Hans Strijdom Drive. At traffic circle, take the 3rd exit onto Hans Strijdom Drive and continue straight ahead. Turn left onto Lynnwood Road. Hazeldean Square is situated on your left.
