Carne SA - Cape Town

I couldn't wait to write a review about Carne on Keerom Street. Carne was recommended to us by a local, and he did not steer us wrong. It was our last night in Cape Town, and it was a great way to end our trip. It was also just several days before the coronavirus shut everything down, so there weren't many people there. However, I don't think it would have mattered if there were, as the staff was so attentive and professional, that I'm sure they would have easily been able to handle a full house with ease. Our server was excellent. His knowledge of the food was much appreciated and his recommendations were spot on. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the manager. He was fantastic! He was everywhere making sure everyone and everything was taken care of. About the food: My boyfriend and I shared the house salad which was fine. However, the star of the meal was obviously the meat. I had the free range pork sirloin on the bone and my boyfriend had the beef prime rib on the bone, and we agreed that these were the best cuts of meat we've ever had, bar none. It's kind of our thing, so we're very picky, and living next to San Francisco we have had a chance to try plenty of places. For a side I had the Carne Fried Potatoes. Do *not* miss these! My boyfriend had the mashed potatoes which he liked, but agreed mine were the best. I should add that although meat is the thing here, they also have some vegetarian options like pasta and various appetizers. The perfect ending was when the chef, Giorgio, sent us an incredible dessert, which was the dark Italian hot fondant. It's similar to a molten lava cake. We had a great conversation with Giorgio who was grace under pressure. I highly recommend Carne!

As a regular 90 day annual visitor to Cape Town I have dined 4 times this year, and I have to say that the quality of meat is of the highest standard and excellent value.My wife who is not normally a great meat eater just loves the fillet steak with the 3 sauces especially the bearnaise sauce.This restaurant has to be on everyone’s short list of Cape Town dining experience.

This could have been so good. Lovely restaurant and attentive service up to a point. Problem was with the chef..... Steak was very undercooked so it was sent back and then was obviously blasted in an oven (it was boiling hot after) and then when re-served it was as dry as and had lost its flavour. No one asked if the second cooking was OK. I didn't eat my steak and complained when the table was cleared. When it came to paying I again complained and was told that this had happened a few times that night and the chef advised that it was due to the steaks being different than usual and they required longer cooking (than usual). Yet, the chef didn't do this nor advised the waiters that this was necessary. I asked, in that case, that I shouldn't pay and was flatly told "you ordered it, you pay". Needless to say I didn't tip!

Incredible steak and we’re living in Zimbabwe eating fillet on a regular basis as it’s the cheapest cut! Beautifully seasoned and cooked steak, highly recommend the on the bone sirloin & safari collection for flavour. Amazing service, great wine, what is there to complain about?!? highly recommend!

After watching a ‘foodie’ TV show that featured Carne, we decided to visit whilst in SA. We are so happy we did. We chose to have the famous ‘Safari’ platter as a starter which featured cuts of ostrich, black, Wildebeest, blessbok, kudo and impala. When it came to the main meal, we were shown each cut of meat prior to cooking and we decided to have a T-bone to share. The meat was incredible. The meat was cooked to perfection too . Handel, our waiter, was amazing at talking us through the process and how the food is prepared. Definitely recommend a visit if you are on staying in Cape Town.

I went to Carne in 2009 and 2010 many times and as it was new all food was just amazing. This time I came back to CT and booked a table for Saturday evening in order to get great carne. Well, i ordered filet Mignon (on the menue they write 250gr. which is a lot) and it was served very quickly after ordering with spinache. The Präsentation of the food was nice, but the meet were 3 small filet with 186gr in total. Don’t get me wrong! It is still enough but the owner brings you less food than on the card to maximize the P+L. This is very disappointing as i heard from many locals that this is happening. Service was very friendly! Restaurant was occupied 70% which is unusual for a Saturday evening. I am sad that Carne, once upon the time being one of the best in class, is going this route. Time for searching for alternatives. Ordered the same as I had last time (sirloin with bernaise sauce and lamb ravioli) except this time the lamb ravioli actually had lamb inside it and not cheese. Sirloin steak was better cooked the last time and more tender too, but one cannot always control these things.

Absolutely superb steak restaurant- all staff extremely friendly and accommodating. Beer was excellent - wine was excellent and the steak was superb. The manager , Conrad , was very talkative and helpful. It was our first night in SA and we hope it continues with such excellent service and quality ! Well done
