Farm to table dining in an exquisitely refurbished wine cellar.
Situated in the beautifully revamped original cellar of the Manor House, the focus at The Werf Restaurant is on presenting contemporary farm to table dining using the best of available local, seasonal and ethically-sourced ingredients. This is offered in an eclectic environment of décor and cooking spaces where the kitchen comes out of the shadows and comes alive inside the restaurant.
Expect fragrant fermented breads, slow-roasted ribs and brisket sourced from the herd of Angus cattle on Boschendal farm, or house-smoked meat and fish and accomplished desserts.
The Werf Restaurant is fast establishing itself as a foodie hotspot in the winelands. Our new shared meal experience, crafted by Chef Christiaan Campbell, is a testament to farm to table dining in a contemporary style. Diners can sample a seasonal selection of fresh farm and garden harvest including vegetables, crisp salads and fragrant herbs. Make your shared meal choice from a daily seasonal menu with plentiful platters such as naturally raised Boschendal Angus beef, glazed lamb ribs, slow cooked shoulder, roasted lamb rump, burnt onions, Romesco sauce or ocean fish en papillote baked in parchment paper, octopus, squid, fillet of linefish, basil, parsley and dill garden herbs, buttered potato mousse and pickled tomato.
Freshness, authenticity and artistry characterise each plate and our dishes are constantly evolving in rhythm with the seasons.
Our daily menu is small and seasonal. What we offer depends on the daily harvest and creativity of our chefs. A sample menu below gives an indication of what to expect.
TO BOSCHENDAL FROM CAPE TOWN FROM THE N1
Take the N1 towards Paarl from Cape Town. Pass the R304 for Stellenbosch. Take the next exit, No. 47 for Stellenbosch, Wellington and Klapmuts. Turn right at the bottom of the slip road onto the R44 and pass under the N1. At the 4-way stop street, cross straight over and take the next left to Franschhoek/ Simondium. After 8,5 km, at the T-Junction, turn right for Franschhoek. After 3,6 km, turn right onto the R310 to Stellenbosch. Boschendal is 1,5 km further along
on the left hand side.
TO BOSCHENDAL FROM CAPE TOWN FROM THE N2
Take the N2 towards Somerset West from Cape Town, then take the R310 - Baden Powell Drive turnoff and turn left at the top of the slip road. Travel towards Stellenbosch, past Spier and Van Rijn Brandy Cellar. At the T-Junction, turn right for Stellenbosch. Travel towards Stellenbosch past Gilbey's, keeping to the left and filter left onto the R44. Travel through the bottom of Stellenbosch past Simonsberg Cheese Factory on the left. At the fourth robot, turn right onto the R310 to Franschhoek and follow this road for about 16 km. You will pass over the Helshoogte pass, through villages called Kylemore, Johannesdal and Pniel. Boschendal is on the right hand side, about 1 km after the Pniel Primary School.
TO BOSCHENDAL FROM MUIZENBERG ALONG THE COASTAL ROAD (R310)
Take the coastal road (R310) out of Muizenberg heading towards Stellenbosch. Follow this road, you will cross the N2, pass Spier on your right and the Van Rijn Brandy Cellar, also on the right. At the T-junction, turn right for Stellenbosch (you will be able to see Neethlingshof Estate to the left). Travel towards Stellenbosch past Gilbey's keeping to the left and filter left onto the R44. Travel through the bottom of Stellenbosch past Simonsberg Cheese factory on the left. You will come to a robot with used car dealers on the left and right hand corners - cross straight over. At the next robot, turn right (still the R310) to Franschhoek and follow this road for +-16 km. You will pass over the Helshoogte pass, through villages called Kylemore, Johannesdal and Pniel. Boschendal is on the right hand side, about 1 km after the Pniel Primary School.
