The original Hussar Grill in Rondebosch is undoubtedly one of Cape Town's true treasures which has been serving only the very finest South African beef to generations of dedicated and loyal guests since first opening its legendary brass doors in 1964. With successful branches firmly established in Green Point, Camps Bay, and Willowbridge, the Hussar Grill has now come to the Winelands.
Located in the heart of Stellenbosch, the Plein Street entrance has a handsome facade with its brass lettering and leaded windows, whilst the rear entrance is accessed via the delightful piazza with sheltered tables for alfresco dining in the warmer weather. The interior is somewhat reminiscent of an English gentlemen’s club – a library corner, leather upholstery, mahogany wood-panelling, labelled wines and a fine pressed ceiling.
The Hussar award winning grill rooms have been proud purveyors of the finest South African steak and game cuts since 1964. The menu offers both quality and value for money and whilst there is a vast selection of fine wines (Hussar Grill was awarded a Diners Platinum Wine Award) to accompany your meal, no corkage is charged on wines brought in by our guests. In addition to our super grade, grain fed beef cuts such as fillet, rump, sirloin and T-Bones, we ordinarily offer the following matured and hung game species: Kudu, Springbok, Gemsbok and Eland and Ostrich. These cuts are subject always to hunt and season.
Starter recommendations are the Steak Tartare and grilled (or deep-friend) Calamari. Popular main course choices are the Chateaubriand with béarnaise sauce, the Hollandse Biefstuk, and the Hog Ribs. As we try to please all our guests, please note that fresh fish from Gordon’s Bay is also on the menu, as well as a substantial vegetarian platter.
