Tony Mason and his daughter Farah Mason had their eyes on a venue in Second Avenue in the trendy Harfield Village for over a year. In April they officially took over the site and completely revamped it to give it a Mason feel.
When Farah was a little girl it was always her dream for her and her father to open their own restaurant called “Daddy and Me”. An opportunity to open a restaurant in the Village arose and Tony & Farah came up with “The Avenue” as the building has a little plaque with the historical dairy name called “Avenue Dairy”.
The interior of The Avenue has dark wooden furniture accented by rich red walls and decor while pictures of old cars, wheels and hubcaps complete the unique look.
The team is a marriage of a carnivore and a herbivore. The herbivore is the steak man who often slips and has a sample piece of meat because it's just so good.
The steaks are sourced from the best feed lots in the country and are then treated to the utmost care and basted in the secret family recipe. The Avenue also caters well to ‘fishees’, vegans and vegetarians.
Tony's current favourite dish at The Avenue is the Grilled Haloumi Starter, which is sesame encrusted on a bed of greens with grilled baby tomatoes and Patha, while Farah’s first choice is the Fillet on the bone served with fresh roast veg. A popular favourite for most of the patrons at The Avenue is most definitely the Lindt chocolate brownie, a decadent dessert for the chocolate lovers.
Please note we are Halaal friendly, using Halaal-certified meat and chicken in our kitchens.
