O Pescador restaurant is situated at the Waterfront Knysna Quays, shop no 20 first floor between Ocean Basket and Spur. Established for 28 years. We are open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. We accommodate small and large groups. We have the freshest fish caught daily. We offer prawns, crayfish and oysters. Our variety of steak and chicken dishes is popular among both local residents and tourists. A combination of hard work, excellent food and good service have paid dividends for owners Mannie. Lodete and Sean. Aside from the many local residents who are regular clientele, there are a growing number of tourists who return time and again to savour the traditional Portuguese fare.
Decorated in shades of teal green and deep red, the restaurant has a bar made from Rhodesian Teak and an open-plan kitchen. It is here that Manny and his team of chefs expertly prepare an array of mouth-watering dishes. Manny admits to being a self-taught chef with a passion for food. Together they produce a host of appetizing dishes freshly prepared to order, whilst keeping a watchful eye on diners to ensure that everything is running like clockwork.
The menu offers a good selection of typical Portuguese dishes. For starters try the Caldo Verde - a traditional soup with potatoes, kale and sliced Chourico, and for those who enjoy mussels served in a creamy onion sauce is excellent. Equally enticing and certainly very popular is the Prego Trinchado - steak or chicken served with a wine sauce (the peri-peri is optional) and plenty of fresh bread to soak up the heavenly homemade sauce.
For main course, meat-lovers will be impressed with the Espetada or Portuguese steak - tender and juicy and topped with a fried egg. The crab curry and Portuguese sardines is a favourite amongst the patrons. Baby Chicken is free range and can be prepared with or without peri peri. A house speciality is the Bacalhau Assado - grilled salted cod fish - prepared in true Portuguese fashion and served with baby potatoes, strips of green pepper and a vinaigrette sauce. To complement your meal O'Pescador stock a selection of Portuguese wines and port, as well as 1920, the renowned Portuguese brandy.
