The Idiom Restaurant and Wine Tasting Centre,, unveiled in June 2016, epitomizes ‘contemporary dining’ set against the backdrop of Idiom Wines’ exquisite offerings.
In the shadow of a granite mountain range, and cooled by ocean currents, Da Capo Vineyards at Idiom Wines is known for its unique-tasting wines, many of which have garnered awards. Idiom specialises in European Italian & French varietals. The estate’s first vineyards were planted in 1999 and features 20 varietals. Winemaker, Reino Thiart favours lesser seen single varietals and iconic classic blends. Along with the Idiom Collection range they also produce a limited edition 900 Series, the Heritage collection which reflects the owners’ Italian roots, and the Imperium range.
With 10 exceptional vintages under their belt, the Bottega family decided to open a tasting centre and restaurant where visitors could taste the beautiful varietals within the context of the farm’s warm hospitality.
Idiom Wines’ glass-walled restaurant, designed by architect Thomas Leach, combines old-world Roman architecture and contemporary design. Due to its location high on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains, the restaurant, terrace and tasting room offers visitors a 360 degree view over the Helderberg Basin, the full expanse of the Cape Peninsula from Table Mountain to Cape Point, the sweeping curve of the Hottentots Holland Mountain range to False Bay glistening in the foreground.
A traditional final stop before taking on the Gantouw Pass portage Idiom Wines is without a doubt the estate with the most breath-taking view on the FNB Wines2Whales route.
Outside of FNB Wines2Whales the trails on the property are off limits to mountain bikers, but outdoors enthusiasts can visit for an immersive sensory walk in Idiom’s Varietal Sensory and Fynbos Gardens.
The restaurant specialises in contemporary cuisine, exploring the best of Italian and South African flavours. It is here that you’ll enjoy the Idiom Signature experience: a delicious three-course lunch paired with the estate’s flagship wines.
Whether you are a local or a tourist, Idiom Restaurant and Wine Tasting Centre is waiting to welcome you, offering an idyllic space for intimate gatherings, family celebrations, or simply unwinding while relishing fine dining options or a glass of exquisite wine.
