After 2 very successful East London restaurants, the owners, James and Natasha Hogg, felt like East London needed a Mexican restaurant, where people can enjoy good company, traditional Mexican food and a lot of craft beer. After trying out a variety of menu options and recipes, James and Natasha were happy with what they had planned and the idea was set into motion.
Cantina and Craft opened in February 2016 with the help of two general managers Shira Snyman and Rudi Nel, although there was no official date of opening as trading started as the stock arrived. We were selling cappuccinos and training chef’s altogether. The restaurant location had to be close to either one of the other restaurants to make for an easy commute between the three. The perfect location opened up a 100 meters away from Sanook Eatery, in the Beacon Bay Crossing complex.
With the restaurant open, we were looking at offering authentic Mexican food, as well as Mexican food with a South African twist. Our fresh produce suppliers were working as hard as we were, trying to source the hottest of habanero's and freshest of limes.
We only use ingredients that could be supplied fresh and regularly. Our sauces are all homemade on a daily base to ensure the quality and consistency. We offer a large variety of very hot to mild options on our menu and even cater for kids. Our Salt and Pepper Squid is a starter that’ll give everyone something to write home about. Our margarita’s has got the town buzzing, with its size, look and taste.
Our interior is packed with Mexican décor straight out of Mexico to give it an authentic look and feel, as if you were in Mexico sipping on a Margarita.
