Café Extrablatt in Green Point is the first of this highly successful German café brand to open in South Africa with Guido Dierschke, who decided to move to Cape Town from Germany, at the helm. The store is beautifully outfitted from the light chairs with marble tables to wooden tables with leather benches complimenting the wooden flooring and natural colours reflected in the wooden wall panelling. The soft coloured walls reflects dashingly in the mirrors making the shop suitable for both day and night.
The café allows for early breakfasts enjoyed with a cup of Schumli Coffee (grounded freshly and brewed while you wait) or a quick lunch and as the sun starts to set, a drink with a Pick & Dip platter selection. As evening descends on Green Point, the lights are dimmed and the entire ambience crosses over to that of a cosy restaurant. The easy background music becomes more loungier in the evening with dimmed lights, tea-lights on the table and more dominant music for the perfect evening atmosphere. Café Extrablatt is a place to go on your first date or having cheese cake and a cappuccino with your grandmother. You can have a business lunch meeting (wi-fi), catch up with your friends for a beer after work or a nice dinner in the evening.
In the perfect Café Extrablatt you see people coming in and out, meeting and chatting at Café Extrablatt. People from the age of 21 up to 80 enjoy the "communication gastronomie" .
The originality of the menu lays in the breakfast buffet which not only offer the normal breakfast array, but also a wonderful selection of artisan breads and cheeses. So no matter what ones preference, this breakfast will do the trick! Another aspect of their menu is the fact that if you are not that hungry or only need a little pre-dinner snack, the fabulous selection of tapas are on offer for great prices. Not forgetting their German origins, there is a section dedicated to German delicacies called the German Corner.
