Peter Gordon founded Barristers in November 1980 and it has grown from an 80-seater to a 150-seater restaurant, comprising of the Grill Room, the Café and the Fountain Courtyard. “Under direct management of the Owner and with a motivated and highly competent Management Team, well-trained staff, and unique facilities, we remain one of the few independent restaurants with a long and successful heritage which we constantly strive to uphold”.
Barristers was taken over by Lance and Diane Chandler in March 2008 and they have committed to the Barristers brand and traditions. "We believe that Barristers is a place where you always feel respected and welcome."
The revamped bar and deck areas offer a wonderful venue for entertaining and with a selection of more than twenty draught beers on tap, all ice cold, “we are the best spot to watch sporting events on our big screen TV's. Being in the heart of Newlands, we are unashamedly Stormers supporters!”
The European styled Café Bar and Coffee Shop lends its own distinctive charm. The romantics will be delighted with the quaint al fresco Fountain Courtyard that provides the ideal setting for a healthy breakfast, Mediterranean lunch or an intimate dinner.
The Grill Room has an array of mouthwatering steaks and meat dishes (for which Barristers is famous), fabulous fresh fish dishes, Mediterranean, Continental and vegetarian dishes are also part of the appetizing mix. In addition a variety of light meals including delicious salads and mouthwatering sandwiches are on tap.
Barristers caters for all tastes and budgets, from the traditional pan fried prawns (still served on their own brass burner) to the ever popular Roquefort sauce.
Having a comprehensive and interesting wine list, with many wines served by the glass and regular tastings, Barristers is confident that they will have a wine to satisfy the most discerning pallet. The range of whiskeys and liqueurs is extensive with more than twenty five whiskeys on offer.
