The Wild Fig

NO TEMPERATURE checks at the door. No sanitising! Not cool!This USED to be a great restaurant. Not anymore. Signature dishes have been removed like the Greek Lamb in Phyllo pastry and the Chicken Pasta with chorizo . Why? Instead the menu has been dumbed down to dishes that are cooked without anyone having taste testing them. Just because the correct ingredients are included does equate to a tasty meal. My beetroot, feta & butternut salad came with very bland spinach leaves which made it simply unpalatable. Replaced this with chicken pie which tasted of too much flour! Is no one taste-testing the food?On arrival, there were 3 other tables, who, like us, were ignored for about 15 mins. Where were the serving staff? Apparently cleaning glasses! Come-on guys! Set-up happens BEFORE customers arrive! Seems the restaurant was woefully understaffed - on a Friday night?We are locals and previously enjoyed The Wild Fig over a few DECADES. Not anymore. You just lost 4 customers.

My first time visit. Not greeted or welcomed by the two gentlemen at the reception, granted one was attending to customer, the other seemed to be focused on cashing up and knocking off.Food was not great. Small steak portion was completely covered by onion rings. Food was cold and meat temperature was medium rare while order was for medium. Steak was returned and came back as preferred.Lastly set up decor is lovely, but what’s the use of a fireplace if it’s not being kept alive with burning wood on a wet cold day!

I used to have a high regard for The Wild Fig, having had excellent meals there before, but they seems to have deteriorated a lot over the past few years. I met a friend for lunch on Saturday and chose The Wild Fig due to its convenient location and my good memories. It was raining when I arrived and it was not immediately clear where the main entrance was. Although there was a fire in the fireplace, the inside of the restaurant was dark, cold and uninviting. Everything looked and felt old and run-down, including the sticky plastic menus with photocopied inserts. The wine list was the next disappointment - there was a very small selection to choose from, despite being in wine country! My duck (R205) was very tough and could have done with another 20 minutes in the oven. My friend's roast pork belly (R150) looked like a better option, although the portion was very small. We shared a bowl of cooked vegetables. Although it was great to see my friend again I was disappointed with my restaurant choice - we could have done much better at that price. The Wild Fig seems to have lost its mojo should be regarded as a "tavern" for a few beers with friends on a sunny Saturday afternoon, rather than a fancy restaurant. I will give it a miss in future.

We went there on a quiet afternoon for late after noon drinks... outside was quiet, peaceful and under shade.. The service was friendly and attentive, the red - and white wine selection good and well priced. The restaurant area look cosy.

Lunch under the trees. Spend a quiet Friday lunch outside in the courtyard. The food is okay - not spectacular. Staff were efficient and friendly.

Food good, but disappointed that so many of their other choices were taken off the menu. Also that on the entertainer app menu shows prices but on the actual menu at least 35% more. Not cool.

Overall disappointing lunch. The Risotto ordered by my daughter was a large bowl of mushy rice a minimum portion of the ingredients stated on the menu and the mushrooms smelled off , I also had a taste of the mushrooms and we both had unpleasant after effects when we arrived home. Totally overpriced at R150. My granddaughter rated the chicken pie good. The other two meals were average. Neither the owner / manager came near our table to ask whether everything was ok.

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch time meal at The Wild Fig. The food was good with amazing flavors as well. Shout out to our host, Jenny, who was really friendly and shared some useful tips for out next trip Wild Fig;)

Visited for the first time and totally loved this restaurant. Off the beaten track, lovely setting and an excellent menu. Polite, efficient and friendly staff made our visit very memorable.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this old Cape Town eatery. the service was good Sadly the decor really needs some attention . it is out of date, the chairs are uncomfortable and the plastic coated table cloths were a bit of a put off. I really hope that the owners put some TLC into the space as the menu offerings and wines are well priced and superb !!
