The Brass Bell Restaurant

On Father's Day, I called Brass Bell to check availability and spoke to a lady advised that they were fully booked at the time (around 12:00), however, would be able to assist as of 13:30. I then proceeded to ask if reservations are required and she said NO reservations are required as only walk-ins are accepted and further mentioned NO reservations are taken as it is based on a firs come, first serve basis. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were told to take a seat and that they would see to us shortly. As we were waiting, we noticed "reserved" tables NOW if reservations aren't required and your normal procedure being "first come, first serve" why in heavens name would you reserve tables for certain individuals? When I enquired with the lady whom I conversed with telephonically as to why she was contradicting herself, she mentioned that these guests have booked two week in advance - THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. She initially lied when I called her because after eventually being seated, "reserved" signs were placed at so many tables around us. I would hate to think that she is the owner, because that is NO way to treat any person, regardless of the colour of their skin. She was very friendly with white of complexion customers... This wasn't our first visit, we have been there many times before BUT it was most certainly our last. Two positive things - The head waitron Fanuel's service was exceptional and the food delicious. Attended birthday party at one of the function rooms. Snacks provided were very good, but very few covid protocols were followed. The view and smell of the sea is always an attraction, but an effort should be made to keep the subway clean and remove the urine smells

Last night my fiancé and I went to the Brass Bell for supper and a show with my family, it was an absolutely amazing evening!The food was phenomenal, the drinks were delicious, definitely try their cocktails and the staff was warm and welcoming, ensuring that our time there was enjoyable!

We enjoyed the inside seating closest to the tidal pools - where brave locals enjoyed their mid winter morning swim. With the windows dlided open we not only saw the amazing waves breaking, but also heard the waves and felt the spray. The breakfast was delicious. Friendly and attentive staff.

We went twice for supper and had a good meal. First time was to watch the football, but the channel changer on the DSTV was broken (come on guys!) and second was a big party for a celebration.Both times the food was good to OK and the service swift and attentive. the restaurant has lots of different seating options for you and we sat upstairs looking out over the pools with the window wide open - lovely and COVID safe. The upstairs inside bar (the original part of the Brass Bell) and the downstairs disco however looked very COVID unsafe.The pricing is fair for what you get - not cheap.

The layout of the restaurant is excellent.....we sat downstairs with the windows open and watch the waves pass by...sometimes getting a splash or two...which was refreshing. Also got the company of a very, very persistent but beautiful seagull. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was of good quality. Had the kingklip....expected a good sauce with it was a tad dry...but overall good and well presented.

So it was wheelchair Kevs 60th on Sunday the 21st March, and it was quite an event...It took place in the cabin bar, with many people in attendance, and as we now have the old head chef back (JP), the quality, consistency and generosity of food was a complete 5 out of 5.The food was simply delicious, with a complete smorgasbord of tasty treats from olives and hummus, spring rolls, miniature kebabs and the nicest meatballs I've ever had.I've eaten at the Bell many times, sometimes about 10 minutes after JP had clocked off and gone home, and the result when he wasn't there was a bit hit and miss - when he is on duty, always superb. Welcome back JP, and here's hoping for a long and happy relationship with your home from home...And the wheels literally did fall off for Kevs 60th, both of them off his wheelchair... some tools were required on the platform to put things right again...

We sat upstairs on the outdoor deck looking onto the sea with fantastic views.The staff were friendly and efficient and the sushi was as good as it was the previous time I came so clearly consistently good. It was also very good value with the half price special up till 6pm.I would definitely recommend!

Welcomed by friendly staff and directed to our table with spectacular sea views, good memories of years coming here flooded back, and we were not disappointed. Excellent service, especially from Carlos. The freshest hake, battered crisply with fabulous fries and a creamy tartar sauce. The mussel starter was also a winner. We finished off with a very homely Cape brandy pudding, served extravagantly with cream and ice-cream. Plus they were very accommodating with our dogs. A truly must-have memorable experience.

Had lunch with the family. From the moment the booking was made with Karen, to the moment our group entered and was welcomed by Bella, we knew this establishment simply does not disappoint. Bella personally took us to our table and her friendly smile was a welcome approach after a long drive. Our waiter Mandy was extremely attentive, despite the restaurant being rather busy. There are 9 different venues and we chose Waters-Edge. Regardless all venues have extra ordinary sea views and tables are right next to the water. At one of the other venues, called Seaweed and Salt, I was most impressed by waiter, Willow who also went to great length to elaborate on the history of the place. I would highly recommend this place.
