“Amazing atmosphere and a great vibe”

I attended the opening night of The Artisan as it is under new ownership and it was so great to see that there is once again a great atmosphere and also occupied with great company. The food is very tasty and I would say is ideal for birthday celebrations and maybe even corporate events. They are now running plenty of daily specials on cocktails!

“Great food and lively vibe”

The Artisan is in Greenside, tucked away between other restaurants, so keep an eye open as it's easy to miss.There are tables inside, upstairs as well as outside; the inside section is the only section that's non-smoking, so it limits options if you're trying to avoid smoke.The menu is small, but the food is tasty and well prepared. I opted for a burger - packed with brie cheese, bacon and more. A taste sensation and well presented.Service can be relaxed so take your time when you're here.

“Hidden away....but keep looking until you find it”

Pleasantly surprised. Love the rustic decor and especially the murial. Good variety of kraft beers and gin. The server were friendly and knowledgable. Ordered the nachos (comes highly recommended by other reviewers) as well as the rump skewers. Liked the nachos....did think the rump was a bit over...but the service was slick. Take some time to chat to the bar man...he is extremely skilled in mixing some fabulous cocktails. Enjoyed the lazy afternoon/early evening out. Will go back.

“Tasty tapas”

Varied menu of tasty tapas items washed down with wonderful cocktails and pretty gins. Best suited to a leisurely meal as service can be a bit slow.

“Loved the vegetarian burger!”

Veggie burgers can be pretty hit and miss, but the one at The Artisan was very good! I don't eat dairy, so I asked them to withhold the cheese and yogurt sauce, and instead added some avo and peppadews. The flavour was great and it was moist. Fresh lettuce and tomato as well - I skipped the bread but it felt very fresh. My husband had the chicken strips and fries and they were tasty - and a great deal. We like The Artisan a lot. Good food. Friendly servers. Good prices. A nice neighbourhood spot.

“Good nachos and burgers!”

We stopped here for lunch - great nachos and burgers! Service friendly and prompt. Nice atmosphere. Pretty chilled environment when we were here for lunch on a Monday. No gaucomole the day we stopped by, but the nachos still good!

“YUM! Great experience”

My partner and I went here because we were nearby and it has a special on the Entertainer app. We were pleasantly surprised! We shared the bacon and avo salad (not stingy with the avo!) and the Cajun chicken burger and both were fantastic. They also have a nice little patio area upstairs, unique cocktail specials, and friendly staff. We will definitely be going again.

“Nachos & platter - so much to choose from!”

Not easy to select from all the delicious options on the menu. I loved the Nacho's and the 1/2 portion was more than enough. The mixed platter was also very nice.There is inside and outside seating. We sat in the outside seating in the back courtyard.

“Very nice nacho's”

My book club was looking for something different for our meeting on Saturday and decided on The Artisan in Greenside, JHB.We all had some version of the nacho's which was tasty and good value for money. The Fiery Dragon Ginger Beer is delicious!The service is unfortunately indifferent, but maybe not totally unexpected for this type of café. It seemed as if they cater for regulars, who we saw come in, get a board game and a drink and play the afternoon away.

“Service and food not up to scratch”

Absolutely no ambience. Service was unprofessional and indifferent. It seemed like the waitress just forgot to come and take our order. The food was uninspiring to say the least. Salad was tasteless and the Greek Bowl Platter was a joke! Badly presented, thrown together little bits and pieces. At least serve it with pita bread. And charge more if you have to. No. I won't be going back.

We went through to Greenside for pre-drinks and I was pleasantly surprised to see that The Artisan had a happy hour until 6pm.

We sat downstairs, but I have previously sat upstairs and the ambience is much nicer there. The service was kinda slow.

We ordered a couple of cocktails which weren't bad, some were a bit too sickly sweet but the Long Island was a winner. We decided to get some nibbles and ordered Chilli Poppers and Halloumi. The halloumi was tasty, and the chilli Poppers were nice and cheesy but not the best I've ever had.

It's definitely an awesome spot to grab a few Friday drinks, we'll most likely be back in the near future.
