Quayside Cabin

Waitress excellent but food not as good as previous visits. My husband had calamari which hadn't been cleaned properly and was very stringy and not very pleasant to eat. My linefish was expensive and the Greek salad very basic and poor quality ingredients.

A quaint authentic seafood diner set in a container on New Harbour. Fresh seafood, value for money in a relaxed dining setting. We will be back.

Whenever we are in Hermanus we always find ourselves going down to the the New Harbour to get great seafood from a Family run restaurant. Took family from Johannesburg there this holiday and did not disappoint. It might look like a small box but it makes up on the fresh seafood it produces at a great price. We shared a platter for 4 @ R650 which was so well prepared and so much we had to bring food home. Especially loved the Mussels in a Thai Green curry sauce and prawns were delectable. Don’t waste your time at the other Seafood restaurants they might have the view but probably not the value for money.

Because of current circumstances we have not visited this restaurant for some time and we were pleased to find that the food remains excellent and the service friendly and efficient. If you enjoy seafood this is a restaurant worth visiting in Hermanus.

We always have a pleasant experience and love taking friends that are visiting Hermanus to the Cabin, today however was shocking. We reserved a table and were the first guest to arrive, two staff members on duty busy with take-away orders, when we were shown to our table we nicely asked if we can move one or two tables due to the cold wind that was blowing by the opening of our table, we were rudely informed that NO it is not possible, i explained that my mom (age 86) will catch a cold, but we were once again rudely informed that we can get blankets(these never arrived), although blankets was not the answer for the cold see wind. We then asked if she could please lower the blind,"NO WE CANNOT", why can it not be possible to just close our blind and open the one next door? We then informed the lady that we would rather leave, we also asked to speak to the manager. "I AM THE Manager" I am not sure who the owner is of Quayside, but your manager is rude(tone of voice) and does not know the meaning of making one feel welcome or to try and accommodate us. We are locals and were treated like crap, would hate your Cabin to get a bad reputation.

Decided to visit this 'container' restaurant. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. We decided to try their signature dish - deep friend calamari. The calamari portions were huge but a bit tasteless. The salad was okay and the chips were nicely cooked. I will come back to try their fresh fish.

We went for dinner and was a littl bit skeptic when we arrived. This place is in the middle of the harbour, close to the water. The ambiance is very rustic.The service was friendly, helpful and fast.This is a seafood restaurant and there is a good spread on the menu.We ordered the seafood platter for two and was very impressed the size of the platter as well as the quality. You won't be dissapointed.

If you are looking for a good seafood place in Hermanus, then the Quayside Cabin is the place for you. They have a large selection of dishes to choose from. As we were a group 6 we decided to go for the platter for 6. It was definitely the right decision - firstly it looked impressive when it arrived, and secondly it was filled with various different seafood plus sides so everyone could get a taste of everything they like. It was so much that we struggled to finish it all. We saw some of the smaller platters going to other tables and they also looked pretty good. The Quayside Cabin is located in the New Harbour and is quite small so I definitely recommend that you make a booking, especially if you go over the summer period or during the festive season - we saw a number of people being turned away. The restaurant is decorated in a true rustic sea-cabin style and has a very energetic atmosphere and buzz. They also allow for corkage so if you have been to one of the local wine farms and bought some white wine that pairs well with seafood you can take it with. We had such a great time that I am sure we will be back there soon. This is a hidden gem, off the beaten track and a must for seafood lovers.

The first impressions are not great. This looks like a real shack/bar type place, at the entrance to the Hermanus harbour. However, food was great as was the service. I would avoid the deep fried prawns and calamari, which were mediocre, but everything else was great. Their fish of the day was super fresh and delicious.

As always, we found the food during our latest visit to this restaurant excellent - nicely prepared and well presented - and, as ever, the service was friendly and efficient. Prices seem somewhat higher than we remember but that could be said of most places.
