Papino's by Jolly Cook- Hout Bay

What a special evening! Karen went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well looked after. The restaurant is cosy/romantic with a lovely fire. We started with the potato skins which were legendary and then shared a pizza which was delicious and crispy with generous toppings. Even though we came hungry, this was more than enough for us. I Highly recommend a night cap of Karen’s home made limoncello as well as the beautiful decadent chocolate mousse with ice cream (again it was more than enough to share). Thank you Karen and staff, we’ll be back again and again, now officially my favourite restaurant in Hout Bay!

It has been many years since we created such fond memories of Papino’s, I was very slightly cautious about returning but it was exactly as we remembered it spicy chicken lovers perfect, and pizza’s just stunning. Hidden little gem, highly recommend.

If you want the best woodoven pizza in Houtbay go to Papino's! Give their Harissa pizza a try for a good spin from the normal.Enjoyed it thoroughly and reasonably priced.

Our first experience of Papinos goes back 25 years! Good local friends told us of their recent amazing experience at Papinos: an eaterie we frequented often but had not visited for seriously the past 10 years! A long time ago. So we had out-of-town friends in town and decided to entertain at Papinos. What a good choice! Decor wise it is still very much the same, the friendly staff and corresponding service was exceptionally warm and the menu still carries the dishes that keep and have kept Papinos classic...the revisit even though it was 10 years on was well worth it!

We have now eaten quite a few times here when staying in Hout Bay.We went on a Sunday but they were closed.Its not necessary to book a table. We usually arrive about 6pm and park on the main street.There is quite a wide choice on the menu and we have never ordered a pizza here so I cant comment on those.We usually opt for a steak which is well presented and served the way we like. And hot which is a bonus!We would recommend eating here when staying in Hout Bay. The bill will be reasonable and the food well prepared.Sometimes the service is a bit slow but I dont mind that for well cooked food.

I have been a fan of Papinos for the past 25 years. Through a number of ownership changes they have stayed true to their standards of quality and the menu has remained essentially unchanged. However recently I have found it has just become less for more. It is not a cheap place at all and our favourite pizzas have become very stingy with the toppings. My most recent pizza was wafer thin including the toppings and tasted more store bought than restaurant quality. Im afraid Im drawing the curtain and moving on....

Awesome food! Awesome staff ! The also accommodate to vegans with their pizzas . You can exchange the cheese for another topping at no extra cost. You can also bring your own vegan cheese and they will cook it on the pizza for you .

Cute venue, great promise, but utterly average and memorbale for all the wrong reasons. Pizza was dry & over-cooked, "salmon" pasta was swimming in gloopy creamy sauce with absolutely no flavour at all and avo caprese salad was a big bowl of lettuce for R85 - you needed a magnifying glass to find the 2 mini mozarella balls each cut into 4and the sliver of avo. When the waiter asked us if we enjoyed our meal we said " not particularly" and he did not bat an eye - he clearly could not give a hoot either way. Needless to say, we will not be back...

I’ve been going to Papino’s for years. It’s always been nice, that’s why I kept going back.The last experience was somehow disappointing.The menu has changed.About half of the selection from the menu was not available. (No starters, no soup, no pasta)Seafood pizza, but sorry - no prawns.Dessert... but no biscotti (used to be a favorite)The most disappointing part was that they no longer accept Diners or Amex. So I ended up paying with an overseas card.The food I had was nice, the waiters are polite. The owner was very kind and was really trying. I think if they can provide what they offer and improve the payment methods, it can be a really nice restaurant.I will be back!
