Monneaux Restaurant

My husband and I had the pleasure to have lunch at Monneaux on Monday, 3 May 2021. The gardens and buildings surrounding the restaurant is beautiful and we felt transformed into a French village. We were warmly welcomed and showed to a table outside. Our waiter, Ricardo was very friendly and professional and made excellent suggestions on the menu. The menu boasted a variety of handpicked seasonal dishes. We had a bottle of Lynx Blanc de Noir which was excellent.My husband had the Iberian pork shoulder with triple cooked potato chips. It was beautifully presented. I had the Duck confit croquettes with triple cooked potato chips. My husband concluded his meal with a crème bruleè. The combination of heavenly flavours in each dish was a match made in heaven. The GM came to our table to ensure that we were satisfied and we had a delightful short conversation with him.We want to congratulate the Chef and his team for delivering freshness, creativity and generosity on every plate without compromising on elegance or technique. We will certainly be back.

My family and I stayed at Franschoek Villas and Spa for 2 nights and had dinner at monneaux restaurant on the 29/4/2021. We ordered 3 lamb curry but was very disappointed in the taste and that it didn’t taste the same as all the previous times we’ve been eating there. The service was also bad and slow and we can clearly see that you are short on staff. Your continental breakfast is good but your hot breakfast isn’t what it always was and your kitchen staff is battling to make a decent breakfast. If you can’t sort out your evening a la cart menu and your breakfast menu you are surely going to lose visitors in SA and abroad. Won’t be visiting this area anytime soon in the future

Found the restaurant online with a Google search looking for great breakfast places in Franschhoek. There was a recommendation online to make a reservation which we duly did and the team couldn't have been more polite and helpful, explaining the menu and prices to us over the phone. On arrival in the beautiful, well manicured grounds we were met by the most fantastic gentleman who escorted us up to the restaurant, again explaining the menu to us. Nothing was too much trouble and our request to have a table laid up on the balcony was met with a response that assured us it was genuinely not a problem and he was happy to meet our request. The gentleman remained to be our waiter throughout. With an excellent product knowledge he explained the buffet and à la carte menu whilst ensuring tea and toast was promptly brought to our table. A small suggestion would be for the restaurant to invest in some toast racks but it really is just a minor suggestionA lovely addition to the service was offering us some off menu items if we so chose. Our waiter explained that as it was quite early, the kitchen was not yet busy and so this was possible. We thought this to be a lovely gesture and although we stuck to the on menu items this really did cement in our thinking that it was a competent, confident and empowered team who were focused on ensuring the delivery of great customer service.The quality of foods on the buffet was excellent as was the à la carte dish we tried. An opportunity for improvement would be to extend the options of meats and cheeses on the buffet by one or two. The roasted/barbequed pineapple was delicious. If you see it on the buffet, I suggest you snap it up with some fresh yoghurt and equally scrumptious muesli.I do wish I had caught the name of the gentleman who served us so that we could thank him by name in this review and so I do ask that whoever reviews this feedback from the Monneaux team will share this review with the whole team. Our reservation was for 09:00 on the 16/01/2021 if that helps identify the individual team member we refer to this this review, who was an absolute super star. Enjoying our experience of great food, service and surroundings, we stayed a good 30 minutes longer than we had planned. A simply wonderful team and definitely somewhere I can recommend without any hesitation. We hope to be able to return ourselves sometime soon.

We had dinner at the restaurant for my Sister's 60th Birthday, as we were overnighting at the hotel, it was just the 2 of us. We had a waitron, Lizette, who was quite delightful and thoughtful. The starter that I had of purple violet artichokes and a very mature cheddar cheese was quite a palate enhancer. The mains of grass-fed Beef Sirloin was generous, but alas it was cold. I mentioned this fact and was told that my message would be advised to the chef, unfortunately nothing was done to correct the situation (thus the Very Good and not Excellent rating). The dessert of apple & blackberry ice cream sandwich was just enough to round off a "nearly-perfect" meal.

We visited in late March last year and it was very quiet. This year in February it was busier but it had a nice laid back relaxed feel. It is in a tranquil setting in the Franschhoek Country House which is a bit out of the main town centre. However the restaurant provides free transport. We dined in the open veranda area but not right out in the garden. The service is good but the real highlight is the food which is just fantastic. Great choice and the quality and presentation is top class but still very reasonably priced. This is truly a hidden gem and we will return.

This is a fabulous restaurant. Everything about it was perfect, from being collected from out hotel, to the friendly, knowledgeable staff and not least the amazing food. At the end of the evening they drove us back to our hotel. Impeccable service, thank you to all who make it such a success.

Very good food and service in pleasant surroundings.The outdoor setting is very attractive but unfortunately too windy when we dined.Service very good and a good wine list.

It was a Sunday night so we chose to eat here. The staff were very helpful and the food divine especially the sweets. The breakfasts we had were also very good.

Prompt pick up shuttle from our guesthouse and equally efficient return. Delicious starters and mains but the abslute star of the show was the cinnamon tarte tatin - utterly historic. Service was friendly and professional. We would highly recommend and hope to return in the future.

Maybe we expected too much, but we were disappointed. Especially when the waiter asked for a tip. Food was ok but nothing special. Quite disappointing.
