“Outstanding Saturday night buffet”
We visited this amazing restuarant to cleebrate a birthday with family. We were a large group and opted for the buffet. The food was outstanding, with a large selection of meals from Pakistani to Chinese. The favorite being the variety of tikka chickens and the fresh naans, and of course the dessert selection at the end. Lovely ambience and service. The restuarant was jam packed but at no point were we rushed to leave. Could spend hours there just relaxing and chatting away the night. One of the best experiences in Johannesburg.

“Complimentary breakfast”
We stayed at the palm continental and were offered a complimentaryBreakfast. Lal qila is famous for their buffets. Seems continental breakfasts are not their forte. Anyway this beautiful themed restaurant should have kept their hot main dishes varied and good. Instead we had a bland potato curry and these were hard. Chickpea curry and looked over left over nihari mutton curry. This was sad. They had lovely hot puris and potato paratas as well. The usual omelette selections. Sadly chai tea was not served.Lal qila is not geared for breakfast in the western sense they should stick to the scrumptious crusine they are so famous for.Im going to come bk to taste the buffet everyone talks off one day when im next in johannesburg

“Best South Asian food in Joburg”
Best South Asian / Punjabi food in Joburg by a distance. Ever since we moved to RSA, we have struggled to find authentic Indian. RSA being the meat haven it is, there is plenty to offer but not Indian. The so called highly rated Indian restaurants in Joburg cater to the Afrikaans / Durban Desi taste buds that has scant appeal for us. We hoped for a place like the Quereshi in KL or Jaggi’s in Singapore, let’s not talk about the iconic places all across India. Lal qila breaks the norm, first of all it’s a franchisee of lal qila from Lahore, which I am told by my Pakistani friends is as revered as the ITC Bukhara in India. The mutton Paya, Tikka kebab, chicken kadahi, the butter chicken and the chole are to die for!! The desert selection though is acceptable and could be better. They are a bit pricey by Joburg standards at R200 pp for lunch and R230 pp for Dinner. But the exhaustive spread won’t disappoint you an inch if you have the APPETITE!!

“Great variety”
This place has a huge variety of meals to choose from. Similar to "Boma" and others. The food is ok though. The cutlery was not too clean. Service was good.

“Bad food”
Firstly the buffet is not available everyday as I was told to order off menu. Ordered a mutton Breyani, which was actually 3 pieces of meat in a pot of white rice. The chef/manager insisted that this was a breyani. They don't have any idea of service. There are much better options for good food and service in the area. Please give this place a miss.
