Jewell's Restaurant

Neil Jewell- still the best chef in my books. On a rather chilly winter afternoon we were shown to our table for 2 perfectly positioned with a roaring fire place behind us, and a large window looking across the Simonsberg mountains. We spent 3 hours being delited by each course that was presented and paired perfectly with wines selected by Tina Jewell. Our menu comprised of grilled octopus with black garlic tahini, lentils and fennel, this should be a signature dish! This being our first experience of octopus, and was absolutely delicious both in texture and flavour. Next was a Jerusalem artichoke risotto with parmesan shards, spek boom and toasted hazelnut. This is the kind of dish you want a large bowl of. It's creamy, crunchy, full of umami hits and then the supprising sour bursts of spekboom. For main course we ordered the springbok loin which was perfectly cooked, served with celeriac and a blueberry ketchup that was just so darn delicious. My wife had the aged fairview sirloin which was both tender and succulent, paired with a glass of spice route chakalaka. We ended our lunch with a Neil's eclair and playful plate of sweets: truffles, wine gums, marshmallows and freshly baked Madeline's. Neil's menu offers ingredients that are served in their truest form, in the most delightful combinations. We will be back soon to enjoy the rest of his dishes.

Such a delightful experience. As a woman dining on her own, I was made welcome. The meal, monkfish was delicious and quite uniquely accompanied. The almond and plumb dessert surprised and delighted me... Something to remember.

We ate here ten days ago after a long interval from our last visit. The menu caters for all taste and the vegetarian option was very interesting. Superb food, service and view. Highly recommended.

Firstly the views , venue and staff were all Five Star ?? and the chosen food was extremely well thought out on a menu that was small in size but offered everything from Meat , Fish to Vegetarian dishesWe all choose the Charcuterie boards to start which had a fine choice of Salamis , Prosciutto and Pork Rillettes along with Home Cooked breads which were divine As the Meats were good in portion size instead of Main Courses we ordered the Cheese Boards which again had five different varieties as in Camembert , Blue Cheese, Manchego, Rock Blue and Brie all served with rustic crackers & fruit chutney Everything we had was presented well and fresh which was noted by all the diners Desserts were declined but we shared two sweetie platters of Home Made Truffles, Fruit Jellies and other sweet delights along with Crafted Coffees it was a good ending to a lovely lunch Kindly note the Mains on offer were a Fresh Line Fish , Fillet Steak , Eisban Pork and Risotto of Pearl Barley all dishes on offer read to be very inviting and we all agreed to return very soon COVID guidelines were all in place and cleanliness in bathrooms & tables was noted by all of us 10/10 for everyone

Jewell's is our new favourite restaurant. The food is fabulous, the setting is so beautiful, the wine is plentiful and well priced, and the service is excellent. If you're in the area (or if you're in Cape Town looking for an easy day trip), this is a must-visit.

Jean and I were delighted to hear Jewell's had opened again at the Spice Route after a Covid induced break. Our experience at lunch today was all we have come to expect from Neil and Tina over many years. We both enjoyed three courses - not often we both do that - we couldn't resist - and we started with Tina's fabulous bread! When its good you just gotta do it. Mussels and souffle for starters, excellent Fairview lamb and risotto for mains and Neil's delicious eclairs to round it all off. You should know they are open and in brilliant form. We have been relishing Neill and Tina's food for some 16 years now, absolutely delighted they continue in their new venture. The setting at Jewell's is gorgeous, clean, stylish decor and the serene majesty of magnificent old trees with distant mountains giving texture and colour to the landscape. As ever, their staff hit the right note; attentive without being intrusive. The menu is concise, yet balanced across the options. Last weekend we dined here both onSaturday and Sunday. Bliss. Long may they continue to excel.

We booked the day before, which was easy on line. We arrived a few minutes early and were greeted with a very friendly welcome and shown to our table by the maitre d and then introduced to our waitress, who was excellent, informative, friendly and offered helpful recommendations. She didn’t rush us, but also was forward thinking! The food was great too. We ordered the bread and charcuterie to share and then followed by the beef and yellow tail, with sides of beetroot salad and cauliflower.... all was great and plenty of food. Only saw the desserts, as we didn’t have room for more food, but managed to enjoy the petite fours, a lovely finish to a great meal.The wine list offered a good selection of local wines. The view's great too. We will definitely be back on our next visit.

When we heard the news that Neil and Tina Jewell were to leave Bread and Wine in Franschhoek and that the restaurant was to close, we were understandably disappointed. Not surprisingly, therefore, we were keen to pay a visit to their new home in Paarl. Jewell’s is one of three eateries at The Spice Route, just outside the town. It sits on an elevated location with magnificent views back towards Table Mountain and the Franschhoek Valley. The restaurant is primarily a lunch venue although a dinner option is available on Friday & Saturday nights. The restaurant is smart and modern and the service is warm and friendly. As you would expect from Neil, the food is superb. I enjoyed the soufflé and plum salad whilst my wife feasted on the charcuterie. Tasty, light food that left one satisfied but not overfilled. Tina was on hand to keep a watchful eye on her young staff. Her welcome was genuine and warm. Highly recommended and don’t forget that The Spice Route features a number of high end outlets selling gifts, pottery and glassware. Highly recommended.

With a busy weekend behind us we decided to finish it off at Jewell’s . What a wonderful experience and great way to close off a weekend. Starting with the most friendly and helpful staff. The scenery exquisite, the hospitality out of this world. Not to mention the food! From West Coast Mussles to the best twice Baked Cheese soufflé. A Vast selection of wine which compliments the whole experience, and of course the charcuterie King himself, Neil, portraying his knowledge and skills on each and every plate. Thank you Team Jewell’s. Worth the journey.
