Jemima's Restaurant

Thanks for getting me Lamb Tjops that was not on menu, Ostrich Carpaccio was good but that is where it stopped, Lamb shank still cold, wine over priced

Thoroughly disappointed. The last time we dined at Jemima's was some 15 odd years ago and it has always been in my mind as one of the best meals I have ever had in South Africa. Not this time around, I am afraid. We made a booking via e-mail for 8pm on a Saturday evening. The booking was confirmed and not once was mentioned, that the kitchen actually closes at 8pm. We arrived about 10 minutes late and received the most unwelcoming reception by the staff, even when we mentioned that we had a booking. We actually had to pull up the e-mail as proof that we had a booking. It was fairly obvious that the staff was ready to close up, even though there was still a large table enjoying some after dinner drinks. Reluctantly, we were seated, but not before mentioning about 3 times that the "kitchen is actually closed". It seemed that they were doing us a huge favour. The whole place looked more like a furniture storage unit than a "fine dining" restaurant. Not inviting in the least.At that point we should have actually left, but we were still hopeful that the food would make up for everything else (and we were hungry!). Wrong. The menu was small and uninspiring, the food portions tiny and the presentation of the food was not inviting at all. And the taste? It was ok, nothing to write home about. I even made a comment to the waiter, that the portions are quite small so we might order dessert, to which we were once again reminded that the kitchen is closed. Eventually they did reluctantly serve us dessert. The best thing about the whole evening was the ice cream that came with the dessert. It seems that other people had a better experience, so perhaps we were just unlucky. The point is though, if a guest makes a booking and the booking is confirmed, I have to honour it and still offer the same level of service and food quality. The fact that someone on the team confirmed the booking, even though they should not have, is not the guests fault. I have a feeling that the chef had already left and someone else was preparing the food.

We decided to stop by on our trip and were not disappointed. Food quality was really top class and staff was amazing. Even though we had 2 small children with us, they went out of their way to make us all feel at home. TIP: if you do visit, try the outdoor seating! Really beautifully set up.

We really enjoyed the wide selection of tapas meals on the Menu.The service was friendly and prompt.The food was tasty and well presented! Lovely selection of wines. Definitely one of the top restaurants on our Route 62 trip.Highly recommended. We shall certainly be back. The owners also have a lovely 5 star guest house which can be recommended! The place to go to in Oudtshoorn. Well done to Debbie and Pierre on a top class tourist experience!

Beautiful venue, stunning art work on display. Staff were efficient, knowledgeable and friendly adding to the delicious food on offer. Good range of wines available as well. Jemima's is a must eating experience on your visit to Oudtshoorn - don't miss out !

What a wonderful surprise. We had four dishes from the tapas menu and a burger with potato skins! Everything was presented beautifully and the combination of flavors of the tapas was outstanding, the apple tart with cinnamon ice cream was the cherry on top. The staff were friendly and well informed. can’t wait to visit them again and try more things on their menu.

We were a group of 8 persons in November 2020 that thoroughly enjoyed the food at Jemima's Restaurant.Lovely atmosphere, appropriate background music, very good food and excellent service and attentiveness received from our host. We will most certainly visit again

I’ll start off with the only negative thing I have to say about Jemimas : I’d not been there before December 2020. (That’s it) How could it have taken me so long to give it a bash? My loss though, which I looked to make up for on the 8 days I spent in town (I grew up in Oudtshoorn and knew of Jemimas, yet somehow managed to overlook it on every subsequent visit the past 15 years...Now the positive:It started with a quick breakfast with the family, which was perfectly delicious. This lead to a follow on visit the next day for lunch, and then the next and twice more thereafter. Every time I tried a different item in the menu - the different pasta options, the burger, the tapas and an omelette. Every meal was delicious and I grew confident in the fact that my subsequent meals would follow suit. The wine menu was truly refreshing too with old favourites, while the wine rack had exceptional gems that were almost too attractively priced.Then there’s the personal touches of Pierre and Debbie - thank you a thousand times; I decided to bring my entire family for a celebratory lunch on my last day in town and all 40-something of us were treated to a truly memorable feast with personal oversight from Pierre and excellent service from his team. They truly went above and beyond anything expected, and have won over my loyalty and support going forward. Thanks to Pierre and the Jemimas experience, Oudtshoorn has become a holiday destination I look forward to, and not just the town I grew up in.

From the outside you have no idea what to expect of the restaurant - this converted old house is an absolute pleasure with beautful artwork on the walls done mainly by te owner. The whole place is artistically put together and makes one want to stay. Very friendly staff and owners that go out of their way to accommodate. Gardens are a pleasure to look out onto and a wonderful respite in the Klein Karoo. Will definitely go back when we are in the area again.
