Hillside Tavern Grill

The food is always excellent at Hillside, if you enjoy ribs, steak or pork this is a great place to visit. Very disappointed by how Covid conscious they are however, waiters mask was around his neck throughout the entire service, this in the middle of the 3rd wave with hospitals full! Won’t go back again until vaccinated.

So, let's start with the positive. Atmosphere is cozy and although I asked for good seating as it was our 26th wedding anniversary, we were tucked into a corner. The snails starter were as always, exceptional, and that's where it ended. My wife and I had the duck a'l orange, which was tasteless, at R376.00 for the both of us, it was an absolute ripoff, they should be ashamed. For dessert, my wife had the pavlova which she said was good, and I had the Peppermint Crisp tart, which was tad dry, and at best, ordinary. Not the restaurant I was very familiar with, what a let down on a very special day !!

Had Sunday lunch with family. Everything was perfect: ambiance, service, food. The steaks were prepared as requested; can easily say best steaks we have had for a very long time. Will definitely go back. Thanks Hillside Tavern... keep up this good standard.

A recent visit to this restaurant confirmed its status as Pretoria's consistently best steakhouse restaurant. After the Covid-19 lockdown the menu has shrunk in size, but most of the old favourites are still there. I've never had a cajun ribeye steak this soft and tasty and all of us would heartily agree that this meal was a most memorable feast, especially after the long Covid fast. I can certainly recommend this steakhouse for its good food and exemplary service. The only negative comment I have is the coffee....really not good. Please find another supplier for your coffee beans!

We were a group of eleven there for a special lunch to mark the end of an 18 day tour of SA and to say final farewells before we disppeared to our home parts of the globe. The restaurant did not disappoint. Our table was ready for us on arrival and a drinks order was prepared immediately while we perused the well designed menu. Everything we ordered from soups to steaks, fish and curries was excellent. There was also a comprehensive wine list to choose from. The restaurant enabled us to have a great final meal together which sealed all the good memories of our trip.

What a great find. The food and service was amazing. You wont go wrong here. The Pork belly is a great size and tastes even better. The Sole was also great! Its a lovely intimate setting and great for couples and groups
