De Kelder - Port Elizabeth

De Kelder is an all-out delightful experience, from the immediate ambience upon entering — like a relaxing retro wine cellar — to the friendly staff and servers to, most importantly, the high-quality and delectable food offerings. We arrived without a booking and were graciously accommodated because it was still early, though a booking is highly recommended. Mwadi, our server, was attentive, personable, and helpful, offering suggestions and allowing us the perfect eating pace. The Kataifi prawns were delicately wrapped in shredded phyllo pastry and had rich Camembert cheese oozing out of the middle. Superb starter. My husband’s filet was enormous and expertly cooked: slightly charred on the outside and a tender barely medium rare inside. My Sole de Kelder was a much larger dish than I imagined. The sole itself was huge with an abundance of flaky, flavorful fish that came right off the bone. The generous seafood sauce offered large calamari, mussels, and prawns. Both dishes came with tender butternut squash, broccoli, and marrow (zucchini), as well as a small salad. It was tough, but we saved room for dessert! The absolutely reasonable prices, along with the high quality food, friendly service, and unique atmosphere, will ensure that we will be repeat customers. Fantastic place!

Absolutely FantasticI arrived earlyish about 1730 Load shedding all around meI have eaten here lots of times and normally have a steak or game to eat Tonite I had an awesome Chicken Greek Soup And the Vegetable Jalfrezi It was AMAZINGa bottle of wine to accompany it and I had a beautiful evening The ladies in the restaurant who looked after me were GREAT THANKSAs always I’ll be back

Our waitress was the best. She introduces the dishes on the menu and also made recommendations. Love it. The food was amazing, food and service awesome. The oysters were big I never had big oysters like that before

What an awesome evening once again and definite must visit in PE.The food was fantastic - I highly recommend the following :calamari (exceptionally tender and lots of flavour), chicken livers (large portion as a starter but is good for a main as well), impala steak and the sole.Our waitress, Sassa, was brilliant - very knowledgeable, friendly and had an infectious laugh.The atmosphere was great despite COVID restrictions.

We were very fortunate to get a table at this restaurant as we arrived without a reservation. We were sat in the bar area and enjoyed a drink while waiting 45 minutes for a table. It was certainly worth the wait though. The food was excellent and despite being packed the staff were also very good.

This was the second time that we visited De Kelder. First time was last year when we visited PE. Have to say these guys do not disappoint. Last year I had escargot and it was even better then the ones I had in Paris. The steaks were delicious.This time I had a Springbok steak and it was absolutely devine. It was cooked to perfection. I take my hat off to the chef. The staff was friendly and attentive. Great service. Would definitely recommend De Kelder anyone. We are on a 2 week break here in PE, eating out most nights. To spoil ourselves we looked on here to see which was the best place. The location, ambiance and menu we're all excellent, but 1/2 way though her main two waiters, both of whom were not ours asked if she had finished, clearly not! as the culterly was not together and took the mains plate away.This spoilt the evening, we did complain but no complementary (sorry) desert/drink was offered. We paid the bill and left with a doggy bag of the evening.

Visited PE 2 years ago and I loved the food in De Kelder. I was back in PE last week and the food and service in De Kelder is still as good as ever!I got the calamari for starter which was the best I had on my trip. For main I had steak, that was cooked to absolute perfection! De Kelder represents excellent value for money in a beautiful setting. A must visit whilst in PE.

We were four couples treating ourselves to a Valentine's evening. The food was good and presented well but the service was slow. We had to pay a penalty for having more than two bottles of our own wine for the table which made us feel like naughty school children. The food is pricey and management not really dealing well with our concerns and complaints. I got the idea that overseas tourists are targeted and that making money was more important than having people leave feeling upset and done in. We unanimously decided not to go back. A pity as this is in our suburb.
