Butcher Boys - Umhlanga

My husband and I had the pleasure to have lunch at Butcher Boys Umhlanga on 3 April and 9 April 2021. Strict Covid19 protocols were followed. We chose a table outside. Hand sanitiser was available on the table. The outside seating area boasts a cheerful holiday ambience. Our waiters, Khanyo and Marcus were very friendly and professional.I had beef Carpaccio which consisted of thinly sliced beef fillet with dots of basil pesto and topped with shaved parmesan on both occasions and it was simply delicious. My husband had the lamb ribs which was tender and a T-bone (600g) which was grilled medium -rare to order. He thoroughly enjoyed both meals. The hand cut potato chips was also delicious. I could not resist to have a few from the bowl on his plate.We had a bottle of Boschendal Blanc de Noir which was excellent and moderately priced at ZAR 145. We also had a Franschhoek Chenin Blanc which we thoroughly enjoyed and priced at ZAR 150. We concluded our meals with Kahlua Dom Pedros which was excellent. Well done to all involved in providing us with high quality service and delicious food in a relaxing ambiance.We will be back next year.

Two nights in a row. Can’t fault a thing. Service by stretch amazing and so were the fillets and the Greek salad ! Try the Bruce jack pinotage / Malbec blend ,.. fantastic at 165 a bottle . Well done butcher boys! See you soon

A difficult review as the staff try really hard. We had the ‘date night’ special and found the starters of chicken livers and salad to be really good. Both mains weren’t as expected and the manager had no hesitation in replacing the steak. It seemed to be just an off night insofar as the mains were concerned but the experience was offset by the general attentiveness and service. This restaurant has good social distancing. Overall, we would give it another shot.

Shall I or shall I not?Well many of us are faced with this decision. The name. the decor, the service all worked and the menu sounded delicious. The food, the presentation are poor. My 300g rump I ordered came one a white kiddies plate. The steak was 1.5 cm thick and I so wished it was perfectly cooked, but no, it was more med well that med rare. How can you cut a 300g steak that thin and expect the grilles to cook it perfect. I am not even going to bring the manager into the story. Management if a customer dare to complaint, opplogize profusely, acknowledge and return with a perfect cooked steak. Don't try to be clever!You want to own a restaurant?, then work it!

Service, excellent. Main meal 300gm rump steak, basting great, side very good, meat was a bit tough.Dessert, cheesecake with milky bar topping, excellent.

A lovely place with a happy vibe. My husband loved his dinner although I had a little more reservation. Still all round enjoyable.

We’d read all the reviews and actually saw one bad one but thought we’d try anyway as we love a good steak! Service was great and attentive. Ribs was top of my husbands list which says a lot as ribs are his favourite. We both agreed that the fillet I had was the most tender I have ever tasted!!! Want to go back just to try more of their dishes!!! Was the best meal of our holiday

My wife and I discovered BB's just before Covid hit and we were anxious to see how they had survived. We needn't have worried! It is still the place to go to for amazing Steaks.Probably not a good place to bring your vegetarian friends though...I must say that the chicken liver starter was absolutely the best that I have ever had, and believe me, I eat a lot of chicken livers. The steak options in terms of cut, type of ageing and weight means that you can choose exactly what you want. Also, I asked for my 300gr fillet to be medium/rare and it was perfectly cooked!If you're anywhere near Umhlanga, and you enjoy good Steaks, you HAVE to visit Butcher Boys. The maitre'd Lee looked after us really well and all of the staff were excellent. A special shout out to our waiter Marcus! VERY highly recommended!

I am not happy with the quality of the food at all! Especially not for the price we paid! My mom's rice was dry and hard an her vegetables was rock hard! My girlfriend got an oily chicken snitchell that was still raw and my steak wasn't prepared the way I asked. Also the service was poor and our waiter was smelling bad.

the atmosphere and the food is totally amazing .. the service is also very good ... a great dining experience
