Amuse-Bouche Food & Wine

Was there for Sunday lunch. Ambience was excellent, live jazz music and the food was delicious and generous.

Ambience is lovely and tasteful though a bit colonial in feels. Service was attentive. Food is flavorful and has comfort food home cooked appeal presented beautifully. Unfortunately portions for me personally were too generous that I could not finish my dish. Nutrition-conscious diners may need to hold back a little bit. Otherwise it was a lovely dining experience especially with friends.

One of us has severe and multiple food allergies. This high end restaurant was well able to accomodate and adjust for these food allergies. They even were kind enough to bake a specific brownie recipe for us and it was presented with with Panache !

The Valentines dinner special at Amuse is definitely something you should put on your calendar. Delightful cocktails on arrival. Yummy tapas style nibbles while you wait to be seated. Then a wonderfully choreographed delivery of food and wine by your appointed waiter. Bubbly and wine and starters were amazing. The clever use of food alchemy in the steak tartar was a delight. I was left a little underwhelmed by my rib eye steak that I ordered medium rare but it came out well done. The cheese board also promised watermelon and honey comb but contained neither so we left it. Silas our waiter however was amazing and reason alone to return to the restaurant.

We dined here on the first night and were so impressed we cancelled our reservation the next night and dined again. The staff were great and we enjoyed a lovely quiet drink at the bar before heading into the main room for dinner. The restaurant staff were great being attentive but not hanging over you. We had tortellini, asparagus and scallops for starters and pork, duck, lamb and pumpkin gnocchi for mains over the 2 nights. The only let down was the gnocchi as it was really a pumpkin salad and is not traditional Italian gnocchi.

small bar so pre dinner drinks very cramped. Restaurant very busy, but food ok. Thought the lighting could have been softer.

I traveled with twelve guests from the USA and we had a private dining room allocated to us. The food especially the slow cooked lamb shanks was incredible. We had superior service with our own butler/waiter.

I was pleasantly surprised when I stayed at the Fairlawns hotel and had dinner at this restaurant. I thought it would be mostly meats and heavy foods - it was a fusion delicacy in Joburg.Upon arrival, we were met with a full house and offered to sit at the bar to wait for an available table. The waiter who served us was slightly rude because we only ordered water at the bar area. We wished to order other items, but I don’t think he realized we were seated at a small table that was already filled with decorations, hence no space for any other drinks.Fortunately, our dinner table was soon ready and our server was considerate. We were given complimentary sets of Hors d'oeuvre - and it was with meat. Since we’re pescatarian, we quietly informed the waiter and thanked him anyway for his generosity. Surprisingly - he came back with another set of vegetarian Hors d'oeuvres! How thoughtful!Dinner was just the right amount of taste and volume. Blends of Korean Kimchee and salmon enhanced taste buds, while blends of beautiful farm vegetables left us filled with delight and no guilt.

The chef was very accommodating and pleasant. Too little staff and not coordinated.Food was served as requested and was delicious.Attention to customer service and capacity management an issue.

The choices we made for our 3 course lunch were really very delicious with my fillet being cooked to perfection. The desserts are to die for and beautifully presented. We shall return.
