We are an upmarket family run Bistro and are delighted to be celebrating 19 years of serving you delicious fresh food - this year! Steffanie's Place is a place of languid lunches, decadent dinners, always special food. May our food be remembered long after the view is forgotten.
The on-going success of this popular restaurant is due largely to the energy and enthusiasm of Werner Vögele, his daughter Dominique and her husband Dean. They form a dynamic team who supervise everything from the front of house to stocking the wine cellar and overseeing the kitchen. Steffanie’s Place has arguably the finest location in the Helderberg, perched right on the top of Irene Avenue with splendid sea and mountain views. An impressive feature of the restaurant is the spacious terrace which has been cleverly screened from the road by a bank of shrubs and delightfully decorated with potted plants and creepers.
It makes the most of the superb setting to allow diners to savour the far-reaching views whilst enjoying al fresco lunches or relaxing sundowners (There is a limited number of seats on the terrace that can be served dinner outside, as outdoor blinds have recently been installed).
An unusually large entrance area has been elegantly furnished to provide a comfortable lounge area which is particularly useful when the restaurant is hired out for functions. Attractively decorated in restful earth tones and pops of green, Steffanie’s well-appointed interior offers versatile seating arrangements with both large and small tables, as well as a number of exceptionally comfortable upholstered booths which provide a more intimate dining experience. Additional features include an attractive fireplace, well stocked bar and large picture windows to bring the stunning views right into the restaurant. The restaurant can be hired out for functions for a minimum of 90 people, but is only available for lunch functions for the period 1 November to 31 March due to the restaurant being exceptionally busy during these months.
Talented Head Chef, Werner Marnewick, certainly deserves mention too, as it is his dedication in producing exceptionally tasty, well-presented dishes, that keep locals returning time and again to this popular restaurant. Much emphasis is placed on using good quality products and only the freshest herbs and vegetables to ensure that Steffanie’s Place maintains its well-earned reputation. Starter recommendations include the Mussels simmered in a saffron butter (which can also be enjoyed as a main course), Duck Springrolls, or Black Mushroom which is a good choice for vegetarians. Main course specialties are definitely the Sirloin or Fillet steak and the Spicy Prawn Pot or Grilled Kingklip and Prawns served with a moreish lemon butter sauce.
Desserts are legendary, with an incredibly tempting selection that includes a heavenly Pecan Nut Pie and an impressive Baked Cheesecake served with a berry coulis. In addition to the main menu, there is a choice of “blackboard specials” which will always include meat, fish and pasta and vary according to what is in season. To compliment your meal a well-priced wine list offers a good selection of locally produced wines.
Whenever you join us, there is always a family member present to ensure a lovely personal dining experience.
