This warm and inviting restored farmhouse (built in 1909) nestles at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains on the world’s first established ostrich farm in the Cape Colony, Rietfontein, which dates from the nineteenth century. The current owners are the 5th generation of Potgieters on Rietfontein. (Ostrich farming was commenced in 1879).

The food in the restaurant is fresh from the area and the farm. We grow our own vegetables in the vegetable garden and we serve delicious ostrich fillets. The smoked ostrich salad is also very popular. For those who do not intend to try the ostrich, we can also offer dishes such as beef fillet, fish, lasagne or bobotie. Everyone is welcome. We serve breakfast, light lunches and dinner.
Rietfontein can accommodate 12 people for bed and breakfast. 3 Units (6 rooms) are available in beautifully restored cottages, tastefully furnished, all with en-suite bathrooms.
