When Sam Perreira and partners opened their doors in May 1988, they traded as Bartholomew Dias Tavern. The stakeholders, all children of Portuguese immigrants, grew up in the food trade and wanted to expand their passion for Portuguese cuisine to the community.
Today, you still see the current owners Dan Faias and Joe Hilario on site, and their passion for the business, dedication to their customers and the creation of wholesome food, is indisputable. The menu consists of traditional Portuguese cuisine, incorporating local South African flavours with a Portuguese twist.
Dias Tavern offers a very casual and relaxed dining experience. It is informally decorated with plastic placemats and some may feel the venue isn’t much to look at, but the menu is what attracts customers. The wide choice of meals including fresh seafood, grilled steaks, trinchado, peri peri chicken and many other traditional favourites, is the reason why Dias Tavern is always buzzing with customers, hungry for the best of Portuguese cuisine. If you feel like having a good meal without any of the bells and whistles, Dias Tavern is the place.
