“First visit to the Wooden Barrel - Very disappointing”

On Sat 6 June I came to the Wooden Barrel with two friends from CT for breakfast (at my recommendation). The restaurant was not busy at all, with mostly empty tables. We waited almost an hour for our food. On two occasions we were told (by two different waiters) that our food was being dished up and it would be on our table within 3 minutes. This is obviously a standard excuse used by the staff. Eventually our food arrived, more on the cold side than lukewarm. One of my friends only had one egg on her plate, whilst the rest of us had two. When we asked why, the waiter told us that the kitchen had problems preparing the poached eggs, as they kept breaking. I'm sorry that I brought my visitors to the Wooden Barrel, and is unlikely that I will come back. The only part of our visit we enjoyed was the coffee and the Marimba Band playing across the road.Sharon

“Best restaurant in Hermanus!”

The food is delicious, generous portions and well priced. The waiters are super friendly and we were well looked after when we had dinner there. Highly recommend the mussel pot and the malva pudding! We also went to have lunch two days before on a public holiday - they were really busy and service was understandably slower, but our waiter was still very friendly and he rushed to get our food and drinks order to us as fast as possible. Also recommend the seafood basket! Will definitely visit when we're in Hermanus again!

“Poor service and below par food!”

This was possibly the longest wait I’ve ever had for the simplest meal/snack! My husband had a very average breakfast while I opted for the toasted chicken mayo- possibly the worst one I’ve ever had. Two thin slices of chain store bought boring brown bread with a measly filling of grated carrot with a smattering of chicken! This took almost an hour to arrive at our table and despite asking to see the manager, nobody appeared. At least every 15 mins, our waitron walked past and said “your food is on the way”.....There are WAY nicer places to choose from on this strip of coastline.

Thank you for your review. It being Easter weekend it was a very busy weekend. Taking that into account and considering the Covid-19 regulations with social distancing which includes our staff you waited for half an hour for your food which is not unusual since all our food is freshly prepared. I reviewed this on our CCTV footage. You opted for the two lowest priced breakfast menu items so I am not sure what your expectations were when you say 'average'. That being said all our meals are of a high standard, You had a choice of brown, white, seeded and Ciabatta bread so I also do not understand your complaint on your own bread choice the filling was by no means measly. On questioning the waiter he stated he is unaware of your continuous requests to see a manager. Going forward your choice of restaurant is your choice and I do not see or understand in what capacity you are advising on the choice of restaurant. .

“Quick bite”

Decided to sit inside as it was a tad cool outside. We were told they running the burger special and had that. Excellent.

“Breakfast with a heavenly view”

Breakfast while staring at the gorgeous turquoise ocean. The flapjack breakfast comes with a delicious caramel syrup and a side of bacon cooked to perfection. The mince on toast has so much flavor. We enjoyed every bite.

“One of the Greatest Local restaurants! Absolutely Excellent!”

This is one of the best restourants I have ever visited!I have come here 3 times in this month and the food is of the highest quality, prepared to your liking and the service is exceptional! Ask for Hazelshe gives greate servise and advise on the menu! All the waiters are greate thoughIf you know what you like, come and find it on their menu, you will not be disappointed!

“Good Food”

If you are looking for unpretensious good food, that is value for money, then "The Wooden Barrel" in Hermanus is spot-on. It helped that our waiter, Rudie, became like family. The Friday dinner was repeated with a Saturday dinner as well!

“Value for money”

We wanted some reasonably priced seafood in Hermanus and this restaurant provided it. Not great but value for money especially their specials. Don't buy the seafood basket.

“Great Food Excellent Service”

When the food is great and the service is excellent it's a sure-fire recipe for a most enjoyable meal. One's dining experience is greatly enhanced by the level of service received, and our waiter, Rudy, did not disappoint.Rudy clearly enjoys his job; he was full of fun, with a great sense of humour, he interacts extremely well with his patrons and was attentive, provided excellent service and ensured that his guests enjoyed their evening. Thsnk you Rudy, you make the difference!

“Wholesome tasty food on the waterfront.”

The food was well priced and tasty (R75.00 special on all burgers when we were there). The staff were attentive and friendly. We loved that it was right next to the cliff paths and harbour so that we could walk after our meal.
