Villa Portuguese Restaurant & Pizzeria

We have visited this Portuguese restaurant often and the food has never disappointed but tonight the visit left me tearing my hair out.We have The Entertainer and it has always worked well on our many visits.Now they have some crazy rules which do not make sense. The Entertainer can only be used if both parties order one of a few dishes which the restaurant has stipulated. Would they not profit more from allowing the one customer to order whatever they choose which may result in an expensive item from the menu and the other customer can still order the stipulated dish on the Entertainer?Now both parties have to order one of the dishes stipulated. Utter nonsense.My cousin's lady only wanted the Eisbein which is not on the Entertainer even though he ordered the pizza which was stipulated.When the manager asked him how the pizza was, he told him that it had far too much tinned tuna. The manager did not know what was on the pizza and thought there wasn't any tuna on the pizza. His reply to my cousin was " awesome". What a stupid remark. I came away thinking that we were supporting a bunch of rather silly people and we will not be going back. Who on earth thought these stupid rules up? A very disappointing and frustrating evening all in all.

Ordered 2 chickens and 2 pizzas. Order to over an hour to come to our table. No patience left. Always liked this place until today

I had heard that this place was fantastic foodwise however I was disappointed with my steak espetada which was tough, cold and none of the garlic butter had melted onto the meat. The chips tasted better! My husband was equally disappointed with his espetada. Our friends were happy with their prawns and rump steak. The service was good, the view of the mountain simply magical.

Great restaurant at the foot of Table Mountain, typical Portuguese cuisine with great peri peri sauces!

We went here three times on our stay in Cape Town because of the friendly atmosphere and well seasoned, freshly made food.We cannot recommend enough, just great.

Ate dinner here twice which speaks for itself! Nothing fancy but good selection of dishes and tasty food. Try the ribs they are excllent!

Real good food and sweet veggies like home cooked especially for you. Value for money family friendly super relaxed atmosphere

Everything about this restaurant is fantastic, except for the smokers having the main restaurant and the non-smokers are left to sit in the small ante-room which fills with smoke every time a waiter has to bring us our drinks and food. I don't understand this policy to provide smokers with the whole bar area and main restaurant as it is against SA bylaws as well.That being said, the food was terrific - especially the tripe, chicken livers, and veal was unique in taste and flavour.Our waitress was quick to serve and friendly.I would love to go again but is hesitant as the smoke has given us a severe allergy.

The staff are very unfriendly, rushed and rude. Always demanding for a tip even if you have just ordered a coke at the bar - really unprofessional and quite shocking. The food is really not good - would definitely never come back for the food. Would return for a drink, if the staff cheered up and stopped asking for tips over a drink poured at the bar. Overall, immensely disappointed.

Don't get me wrong – Villa is a great restaurant with amazing food. I always find myself going back for those proper pork ribs, and yet, there is one persisting problem in particular that drove me to write my first review.It started off a couple of months ago when we went to Villa for those aforementioned ribs. As we took our seat, we asked our waiter, dearest AJ, how his day had been: "Sh*t! I haven't had a chance to smoke weed yet." was his reply. We uncomfortably laughed and brushed it aside. The service that night would echo the reply we got and after a wrong order, cold food and having to waiter for ourselves we were pretty disappointed. At least the pork ribs were pretty damn good. Get them with extra basting sauce (no but really get the extra basting sauce). Tonight we had the painful pleasure of AJ's company once more. We ordered a jug of sangria and before we could finish placing our order our dear waiter got distracted and left us stranded. The sangria arrives a while later, and we finish placing our order – two glasses of water and a chorizo starter, before we get to those ribs. AJ looks me in the eye and tells me that there is water in my ice cubes, as if to say that we don't need to order water. No comment. After enjoying what was, let's be honest, a russian sausage starter we were ready to order, but good luck finding AJ. An eternity passes, until we're eventually graced by the presence of glorious 900 g ribs to share. They weren't as good as always, but what really got to us was, that halfway through our meal AJ comes and informs us that he'll bring us "some wet wipes or whatever". Of course we were delighted, but he proceeded to open the wet wipes for us with his teeth. Gross man. Still gave you a tip even though you deserve none. From now on I'll be sure to ask if AJ is working before I commit to eating at Villa.
