The Grillhouse - Melrose Arch

It was our first time at this branch and service was terrible from the start. We were seated at a table with a tablecloth that was messed with food, 15 minutes after sitting down, I had to question the reason for tables that were seated after us having received their complimentary bread (there were endless excuses offered but no apology) and yet we had not, breadcrumbs that had fallen on the table were not cleaned up prior to the main meal being served (we had to request this), the wait staff were not sure if the correct meal was delivered to us and my husbands plate had drops of sauce that had fallen on the plate (that was not part of the meal and should not have been there). My husbands empty drinks glass sat on the table and he had to ask Sheperd (our waitron) three times to get him another drink. At this point, we complained to the manager who took over service at our table. While hubby ordered dessert, I visited the ladies only to find empty toilet roll holders and pieces of toilet roll all over the bathroom floor with no toilet roll or paper towel available in the bathroom. I asked a waitron to rectify this but she offered excuses and disappeared for 10 minutes.This was the last straw, I asked for the bill and we left. The manager did offer a discount on the meal and requested another visit from us to rectify the disappointment of the night. But the whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth. Service at the Grillhouse (both Rosebank and this experience at Melrose Arch) is not what it used to be and for the prices that one is expected to pay, this is not acceptable. Rather visit Spur for cheaper prices and the same level of service.

It is our favorite place to eat when we are in Melrose. But we were a bit disappointed this time. We ordered two medium fillets, but one was clearly overdone. They offered to make me a new one but that took really long. I had to watch my husband eat his, and later on he had to watch me eat mine... Also the waiter was not super friendly. He didn't even say thanks when we paid the bill and gave him a nice tip, regardless of the steak event.

Old-fashioned steakhouse with over-priced wine list. Somehow escaped the fate of the dinosaurs. Almost everything else at Melrose Arch is better.

We generally enjoyed our evening at the Grillhouse in Melrose Arch. We very much appreciated that we could book our table online, and we found the service at the restaurant attentive if a bit formal. The food was good, but the prices are certainly on the steep side, and R90 for a glass of wine is probably overpriced. But, if you are looking for some good meat, we would recommend the Grillhouse.

One stop area for all your personal and business needs. Shopping convinience with the presence of good security. Wide variety of shops and offices. If you love cars then thats the place to be. Exquisite high end cars. Driving electric car? Well the chargong units are there foe you. Awesome space for life essentials.

This is our favorite place in Joburg to eat meat. The pepper crusted fillet is to die for, which goes best with the very tasty mushroom sauce. Fries are good too, if only they had proper mayonaise instead of the tangy variety which is way too sweet. Not so good was the chicken Caesar salad - too much dressing, too much chicken, hardly any lettuce. We were very excited when we saw the Lindt chocolate mousse on the menu, so we ordered that. Unfortunately, it was very dry and almost solid - the opposite of what a mousse should be. Another mistake was that they kept the mousse in a refrigerator that is also used for savory dishes. As a result, the outside of the mousse had a savory taste to it - not nice. We will keep coming back here for the fillet, but we hope that they will lift the quality of the other dishes to that fillet level.

I had the usual fillet 300grams with sauce on the side. I asked for medium-rare cooking, and I must say it was excellent. It is my choice every time I’m in Johannesburg. On top of that, staff is always friendly and you really feel they are doing their best to make you feel home.

A lovely evening with friends and a first visit to The Grillhous will definately be returning next time I visit Johannesburg. My fillet steak with pepper sauce was delicious, tasty and tender. The Malva pudding the best I have ever tasted. Yummy!Service was perfect. Slightly expensive overall but happy to pay it for such a lovely meal.

I had 2 dinners at the grillhouse and it is definitevely a place where to have a meal.The waiters are very kind and the meat is really wonderful!there are a lot of solution, with perfect cooking timing and with high quality.If you're getting there early there is no need to book. The prices are not super economical, but in line with the quality of the serviceif u are in merlose arch you must go there!

For a Resturant that specializes in Steak, this was a huge disappointment. I ordered a 300 gram rump, what was served was a piece of meat that consisted of fat and sinew. Attempting to eat it was a challenge and eventually I sent it back. All credit to Management they replaced the meal, by which time my family had eaten their meal, the new steak was better, but still not prime meat. I questioned why the first piece of meat wasn’t eliminated at the cooking stage? They didn’t respond. Unfortunately the Management are really active and not proactive. Other branches of the Grillhouse are superb, just avoid Melrose Arch as they are not up to scratch for the money they charge.
