The Bull Run

We were a party of 10 and ordered sparkling and still water, two bottles of wine and only main courses.The water bottles were served almost immediately, although for glasses, we had to wait at least 10 min. Wine bottle was only put on the table without filling our glasses.My ostrich filet I ordered medium was well done and stone cold. All in all it was a rather disappointing experience, especially because I know they usually put much more effort into their service. Unfortunately, this time it felt like going to a street food stall than a grill restaurant.

I visited The Bull Run tonight with my boyfriend after seeing the good reviews online. Just as the reviews and pictures suggest, the restaurant is beautiful however I was very very disappointed by both the inattentive staff and the poor standard, quality and taste of the food. From the moment we walked in, we were unimpressed with the level of service. We did our COVID-19 screening before entering the restaurant but were not even provided a pen to complete the register. We were ignored by the wait staff for most of the evening, even when the restaurant was not yet busy. The wait staff took a very long time to take even our drinks order, nevertheless, we placed our order. We had a cheesy garlic bread (R90) as a starter. There was nothing exciting about this so I would not recommend it. For my main, I ordered the Seafood Platter (R355) and my boyfriend ordered the Sirloin Steak (R210). The mussels in my platter arrived cold and needed to be sent back to the kitchen. The fish in the platter was questionable. Personally, I believe that I could spend the same amount of money at a less pretentious restaurant and receive tastier and fresher seafood. Whilst the steak was cooked perfectly, the terrible service ruined the entire experience. There also was no manager in sight to bring all of this to his/her attention. After reading the great reviews on TripAdvisor and having experienced this restaurant myself, the disparity makes me wonder whether the staff prefer not waiting on tables with South Africans or perhaps they prefer larger waiting on larger groups of patrons. Needless to say, I can guarantee that I will not be visiting The Bull Run again to test this theory.

Definitely describe this as steakhouse / grill. Menu gives enough choice, recommend you add a portion of creamed spinach, take care it is rich! Attentive staff who appreciate customer comments, no doubt COVID has restricted the operation, but it feel safe, social distancing in place, do not be put off. Food is excellent, one thing to mention, asked for my steak medium, it was closer to well done, still succulent, just keep in mind they appear to err on the side of “over” cooking.

After a long day of travel, the Bull Run Restaurant came out trumps with nice supper en friendly service!

We arrived without a reservation ... all eight of us... tables were put together and chairs found in a flurry of activity and smiles... nice people.. super service; which went on all evening including photos outside.It was busy and buzzing on the weekday we ate; the beer flowed and the laughter with it.But it was all about those steaks. Massive, tender, tasty. How do they do that? Ostrich, venison, fillet, t-bone. They know how to do them all, and you can watch them do it. As good as the very best we've ever had anywhere.. I recommend the ostrich, gamey perfection.Starters were good too.And of course with the rand at 20 to the £... soooo good value.

Called in on the off-chance on a Friday evening and enjoyed a fabulous meal. Was busy and lively and food and service were excellent.

Lively convivial space, friendly staff and really excellent beef. Over four nights sampled different steaks and pork done different ways. (Go for the ribs or the pork knuckle ... sublime!) I did have several challenges with the bill — as I was staying at the attached hotel, I should have been more easily charged this to my room; a bill on a later night was flat out wrong, the only common part with what I ordered was the soda water. Advice is to take care.

We had an excellent meal here this week. It does get very busy so either go early or make sure you book. Huge salads for starters, easily enough for 2, we both had the ostrich fillets for main course, perfectly cooked with a salt and pepper crust and again, vegetable extras easily enough for 2. Good puddings to finish with. We enjoyed our visit - excellent food and wine at very reasonable prices.

Wow....these steaks never fail to impress! Had an absolutely wonderful lunch here... which reinforced my memories from many years ago when I regularly visited this South African institution! Impeccable service, great wine and an absolutely PERFECT filet steak! If I lived in Jo’burg I’d be a regular...unfortunately as a Brit, I just have to make sure I visit as often as I can. Pure perfection.
