Squires on the Dam

A warm welcome by the manager after having to flee another establishment because of no wine and crazy prices. We were rewarded with great food and wonderful wine at really very decent prices. The staff all hovering around the fire inside (all patrons were seated outside) towards the end of the meal was a bit of a downer, but it won't stop us from returning.

Cold food! Requested the food to be hot when ordering. The steaks were all cold and so were the spinach sides. The price on the menu for the steaks was R180, and on the bill it was R190. Unacceptable that the food is cold for that price. And it's not the first time we have had this experience here.

The waitress who serves us, had no knowledge of the items on the menu. The Rump with avo, biltong and sour cream was great, but the eisbein was a huge dissappointment as there was no crackling. Luckily the crunchy mixed garden vegetables made up for this.

Myself and the wife went for dinner, was very impressed. Great music being played and our waiter was friendly. The food was good. Enjoyed the restaurant and will recommend to friends and family who visit the area

We went there for a birthday celebration but were sorely disappointed, the pace looked dirty, the atmosphere was really non existent, service was unfriendly and pathetic, after one drink we left

Beautifully maintained historical building on the main road close to the dam wall. Extremely welcoming & attentive staff - from door to table, we were attended to by two members of staff (welcome at the door & immediate drinks order taken by a server). Drinks arrived very speedily & attention to refills were perfectly timed, keeping us comfortable & well hydrated in the stifling heat. Burger, Wow - Ribs, Double Wow & very quick. We sat on the terrace under the trees which was lovely & relaxed. The trees on the main road are a bit overgrown & could do with a tiny bit of a manicure & although the inside of the restaurant is gorgeous, it is a tad too dark. Those are the only two critiques I would offer, but definitely does not effect the 5 stars I gladly give. NB to note that I would give a 6 if I could as our waitress, Alice, was an absolute super star & made us feel like old friends that popped in for a visit - thank you Alice, we'll be back to see you !

Well recieved on arrival. Streaming hot day, Coaster, our waitron, ensured that we had ice cold beer. Food was outstanding, wife had the fillet in brandy and mushroom sauce and I had the jalapeno rump, cooked to perfection. Thank you all for a great lunch.

Will not recommend this eatery at all. The service is average, the food is below average with an above average price tag. The hake and chips I ordered was cooked in old cooking oil and overcooked, so was my husbands calamari and chips, the spaghetti bolognaise was dry with very little bolognaise sauce and no cheese, the kiddies meal was also very dull and the waiter wasn't attentive at all. The cutlery as well as the tables and restaurant isn't clean. The smoking area is open where the non smoking patrons are being served.Not a nice experience at all and I won't recommend it as a place worth visiting.

Food was good but not exceptional and the decor lets the restaurant down. Looks very tired. Thought that we would try Squires as from the outside it looked very inviting but not so much inside. Would probably try somewhere else next time we are in Harties.
