Paternoster Lodge & Restaurant

The restaurant is situated in a beautiful location in Paternoster. I was not impressed by the size of the portions. The management where visible and friendly, however the staff where not engaging.Maybe next time this restaurant will be better.

We started off ordering some fresh oysters - they arrived frozen solid through the middle. When my husband approached the manager in this regard, she gave an excuse of a supplier saying they can freeze them to make them last longer and they came in on the friday. Quoting Gordon Ramsay - "if it has been frozen it is not fresh" . So we thought, okay... maybe an honest mistake, we'll let it slide and move on.Husband orders oxtail and got a tiny portion of oxtail knuckles in a bowl full of sauce with a pitiful portion of rice (Half what was served at either of the other restaurants we went to who served rice with a main) and the sauce was mediocre at best. My snoek on the other hand was gigantic. It was not smothered in apricot (traditional bake of snoek as advertised on the menu) but thin batter fried with a small hint of apricot jam that could barely be tasted and was more of an afterthought than a major component.It also had no less than three pieces of sweet potatoes each the size of a medium potato. So we decide to get dessert to try and fill my husband's stomach. The malva pudding he ordered was the size and shape of a small muffin (he finished it in four bites). The cream dollop served with it dwarfed it. My melkos on the other hand was once again was so large I gave half of it to my still ravenous husband. Quality control and attention to detail are seriously lacking which is a pity as they have an amazing view and with a little bit of care could be worthy of their stated four star rating. I would suggest you go for the view and a beer, but not for a meal as we were seriously disappointed and will never go back as the food was all mediocre at best.

What a story. The road leading us to Skatkis Restaurant was paved with a hurdle. The staff and management jumped after we moved our wedding venue to them 2 and a half weeks before the big date. Unplanned they pulled off the most amazing picture perfect wedding that we could have wished for. The staff was professional, food excellent and the veiw something out of a Mama-Mia movie set. Use these people. They willing and eager to help.

After the disappointment of the previous evening, we found many restaurants closed and we struggled to find an open venue that was not booked up. This venue is at 1st floor level overlooking the sea, so is attractive in itself. The place is not fancy, but we had some excellent prawns, reminiscent of Maputo (the LM variety). Overall, we spent a wonderful evening in this unpretentious gem.

Good food, good service, good location.We had the mussels for starters (very tasty) we all had seafood platters for lunch. Generous portions and tasty. Will visit again.

Poor Service, waiters not trained. Clients went to the Bar to get their drinks. Our waiter took 30 min to bring, us some wine. We did not get any ice with it when we request ice it took another 20 min. We order oysters which was another 40min. I asked the waiter why it was taking so long and he said the kitchen is always slow and therefore the delay. The bar and kitchen is seperate. While you sit in the restaurant you can hear how the kitchen staff chat and swears. Very Bad experience there is better places in paternoster. Only positive thing is the location of the place. Good view but that is it. The staff don’t even know the menu. This is not a restaurant..... only a window with a view.

Worst service ever!! Sat outside at a dirty table since none of them were clean, finally asked if anyone was working there. We were blatantly ignored for 20 minutes! Never again!

overcharged, really no care taken with food, even after telling waitress that the snoek was totally overcooked no effort was made to rectify / replace the order. There were only 2 tables for dinner and yet the manager did not bother to come to the table. I agree with AVOID LIKE PLAGUE. If you have no interest in your restaurant and can't trust management do not open a restaurant!

Another restaurant in Paternoster that takes full advantage of the number of guests that frequent the town. Food that doesn't closely match what is on the menu. 40minutes to get a beer and then even longer to get the next. Avoid. You'd better spend your hard earned money on the stock market. That's the "burger" below. The sauce was extra.

Beautiful views but the food is average. Plastic chairs... :( the staff are friendly but it doesn't make up for the fact that the food is just OK.
