Patina Steak & Fine Wine

…..Without making a reservation we just arrived with our children visiting from Europe. The parking area was filled to capacity so we know that all the restaurant will also be full-ii booked but we just approached the reception deck and asked if they could accommodate four more patrons and without blinking they obliging-lii pulled up a table and four chairs and made space for us on the verandah under the big umbrellas. This is why we love this venue. We started of by ordering a bottle of “Cape Minstrel” Pinotage which turned out to mmmm’ish-lii nice. Because we missed out the last time to try the Roasted Marrow-Bone (onion rigs, sourdough wafers, beetroot aioli, pickled mushrooms) starter we just order one to try. It was presented very stylish-lii and it tasted delightfully-ii awesome. Our main orders were 1. Calamari-Tubes (parmesan risotto, shaved fennel, red onion, preserved lemon, chilli lime dressing) and is always a hit-meal with us. 2. Lamb Ribeye 300 g steak with creamed Spanish. The meat was first grade and served just as ordered, it was succulent and melted in ones mouth. 3. Chateaubriand 300 g (served with béarnaise sauce) or your choice of sauce served with roasted veg again the cut of meat was perfect and the serving was scrumptious and mouth watering-lii delicious. 4. Pork Loin-Rib rack of 600 g. This happens also to be a favourite choice for our family as the the ribs are very fresh, tender and falling off the bone and the portion is enough to share with all present. Fries and onion-rings are a must on the side. Desserts was 1. Affogato (vanilla ice cream, espresso, honeycomb) this was true-lii heaven-lii delicious. 2. White Chocolate Martini (vodka) real smooth. Even when the place is full as today the vibe is always festive and safe. There are hand-sanitiser bottles all around the restaurant and the waiters wear mask all the time. Today our waiter was Joseph and he attended to our every need and was on point…….

We celebrated a special friend's birthday by & her daughter suggested Patina Steak - Newlands. I've never been there so had no frame of reference & had no idea what to expect.Well was I blown away by this venue. The decor is vibey & totally on point, loved the attention to detail & the great atmosphere.We were so fortunate to be served by the lovely Noreen, thank you for your excellent service & killer smile.Our drinks orders were taken & we settled down to study the amasing menu.All orders were placed and we were blown away by the quality & presentation of the cuisine. I ordered a fillet and must admit it was one of the best fillets I've had in a very long time.Can't remember when last I've enjoyed a venue so much.If you're in this area & looking for exceptional cuisine, this is your go to place.To the management and staff thank you for a great experience.Kind regardsFerdie Liebenberg

We started our evening with a drink at the bar behind the restaurant which was busy and had a nice vibe. We then opted for the snails and steak tartar for starters which were both tasty but not superb. As our Mains we had steak and the châteaubriant. The meat was tender and tasty but my béarnaise sauce had no taste and was the absolute wrong consistency, just like some runny butter with dried herbs that have no taste. The chips were very soggy and underfried. All together a mediocre meal, I expected more.

Absolutely amazing food. Went there for the 1st time yesterday, it was highly recommended by my daughter. I enjoyed every mouthful of my sirloin cooked to perfection and the risotto side was delicious. Will definitely go back, actually can’t wait to go back. andPasifique was a great waiter.

I have visited this place many times in last few months and the staff are quite familiar with me. However I attended tonight at 2043 local time to be told the restaurant was closed at 2100. I reminded the manager of considerable trade including large parties to no avail. Therefore I advise checking by telephone because the restaurant does not adhere to its own opening hours.

Not often when asked how do you like your steak that you get exactly what you ordered. But here they get it spot on. Served hot not just warm.Very fresh chips (sweet potato ones are delicious). Service good We did not have to wait long . The place was buzzing on Tuesday night. Only criticism is the volume. But that speaks to the popularity.

A restaurant specialising in steak but with good alternatives for the beef averse. I had the Fillet on the Bone which was truly outstanding. My partner had Lamb Chops which she reported as being excellent. Service was impeccable and the wine list varied and thoughtful. Our meal was a little under 900 Rand which places it in the upper quartile in Cape Town but worth every cent. We’ll be back.

I visit restaurants in this area often as I regularly stay close by and often bemoan the lack of a quality steak restaurant close by. A couple of the “old favourites” in general area have dropped a bit in my estimation so I was delighted to be invited to Patina and that it exceeded my expectations. The Chateaubriand was fabulous as were the accompanying grilled vegetables. Wagu burgers were also excellent as were the fries - both potato and sweet potato. Service was attentive and efficient and we will certainly return. Not cheap but worth it!!

Only our 2nd visit in a year but very impressed. Being a Friday evening it was crowded and consequently a bit noisy but not badly so. Despite some interesting starters we opted for the mains only. My wife's small Fillet was VERY good accompanied by a fresh salad and mushroom sauce. My 200 GM Rump was simply outstanding, tender with a superb flavour. The red wine Jus had just become unavailable but instead the Blue Cheese sauce was also lovely. Both arrived on a heating platter which kept them warm without over cooking. Good chips & a nice creamed spinach. 1 bottle of wine did the trick. Cost before tip R625.00 not cheap but worth it. We will go again.
