PAUL Bakery & Restaurant - Melrose Arch

Took my friend on Saturday for her birthday. We ordered the following: French toast R75 on menu charged R82 (I think) Croque tomatoe mozzarelle R83 on menu charged R89. Added portion of chips which I thought was free -charged R26 Total bill plus tip R290....TOTAL rip off. Think they add VAT on which is ridiculous as it is already so pricey Wont go back unless I get some compensationMore

Their menu prices DO NOT include VAT They add this on afterwards This is illegal in South Africa Stealing from patrons Wont go back

I'm so disappointed with this restaurant. The quality of food has really deteriorated since they first opened. The bread is still good though. The almond croissants I bought recently were burnt. Even The onion soup tastes so different to that original French flavour. The coffee...is good and sandwiches are still ok. This was my favourite place. I used to be a regular at this place but stopped going towards the latter part of last year as there is better quality of food at other places in the Melrose area. We dropped by for a lunch, the baguettes are very generously sized! I had chicken and pesto on wholegrain, really delicious. Great bread, good filling and good service.

Searching for a bit of quiet, cozy and a bit more upmarket combined with coffee and good patisserie, we picked PAUL for a 20:00 SUNDAY EVE TREAT! ??....coffee was good, coconut flan was delicious ....but the staff was really really noisy...destroyed the atmosphere completely

Best quality in everything they make... from the meals to their cakes. I go back home with so many cakes. as I said no dieting here

Good brunch venue. The food is good quality if slightly rich and indulgent. We had a couple of delicious eggs Benedict and pancakes! They got our order slightly wrong as we had several waiters and obviously not everything was written down. All the same we...will be back to this well known venue.More

Combined bakery and restaurant. The bread was excellent. OK french style restaurant. Nothing special about the food, had a decent evening meal but will not remember it. Very good service. If I am back in Melrose Arch I am going here for breakfast as the...pastries look good.More

Went here for lunch after a very long flight. It was comfortable and pretty. The food was very good and the service was great.
