Mozambik - Gateway

One of the worst service restaurants I went to in my life. The staff was super rude and didn’t even look at us when we stepped in. Didn’t even ask if we wanted a table or greet us. She didn’t even show us to our tables. She just pointed at a table rudely. We sat down and ordered drinks which she was still really rude about for whatever reason. My fiancé and I are very timid people and didn’t do anything to upset anyone but our waitress was super rude for no reason. She comes back after 5 minutes and asks us if we were ready to order , we say no cause we’re still looking at the menu. She looks at us and says “I’m giving you guys 5 minutes” doesn’t wait for our reply and walks away. Anyway we order and our waitress doesn’t even bring us our food. A random guy from the kitchen comes with our food and stares at us like I’ve never been stared at in my life. We thank him and he doesn’t even acknowledge it. No one even checked up on us during our meal to see if we were fine. The place wasn’t even full so they could not have been that busy. Very disappointed. My fiancé and I are an interracial couple from the USA , I don’t know if they had a problem with that or something else about us. Don’t work in customer service if you don’t wanna serve customers. Most hostile place we have gone out to eat and I would not recommend it.

We decided to eat here, partly because we had a great experience at Mozambik in Cape Town. Food was of excellent quality and the service very friendly and efficient. Only 4/5 as were a bit surprised that the prices were the same here, in a mall in Durban, as at V&A Waterfront in CT. Apart from the location, the decor and furnishings were "cheap and cheerful" in comparison.

Tasty food served piping hot. Loved the prawns n calamari with the delicious sauce. Kiddies meal was also good. Paid for 2 kiddies meal but as only 1 came along was not given the other meal as takeaway. Unfortunately due to load shedding caused some delay. Staff were good n friendly. Atmosphere was comforting n serene. Location well situated.

We were given the plastic red chairs to sit on - which were not very comfortable. Hubby ordered kingklip with chips and I settled for hake with lemon chilly sauce, accompanied with the vegetable stir fry.My serving was delicious as was the vegetable side. However, the kingklip was too tough. The waitress enquired about the food and when hubby complained that it was not good, she insisted and returned it to the kitchen. He waited a further fifteen to twenty minutes to be served again. The second serving was better, but still not great! I suggest that we stick to the prawns next time, which seems their specialty, as I saw many patrons being served the prawn platter.

Great food, fillet cooked perfectly and mash potatoes delicious. Most staff are welcoming and attentive however there are a couple, one a female waitress, who could be much more friendly.

We felt like something different to eat and tried Mozambik. It was an exceptional food experience. Great flavours, food well prepared, great service and good vibe. Especially on a friday night. A must if you want spicy with flavour. Not sorry we popped in. Will highly recommend this restaurant. And will go back when travelling to Durban.

My second visit to the Mozambik. Both times my food was excellent. I had the vegetarian curry, my husband the quarter chicken, my son the ribs and my daughter in law the chicken livers (starter portion) all of our food was tasty. At 10 in the evening the restaurant was full with diners, which goes to show that they are quite popular. I loved their personal touch of toasted nuts, wrapped in paper, given to you when you sit. There were lots of families with little children.

Visited the restaurant with a group of friends recently. Based on previous experience we knew the place to be reasonably priced, however, on this occasion found the prices have increased substantially.My friends comments on the food ranged from "OK" to "Average". The portions were very good on most of the items we ordered. The prawns were indeed queen size and not tiny as some other restaurants have started to serve, however, they weren't very fleshy and stuck to the shell. Service was excellent and our food arrived fairly quickly. The restaurant was not too busy at the time. Our waiter did a great job and constantly checked on us.Had we known of the increased prices at Mozambik we would probably have visited Circus Circus nearby which has an upmarket ambiance and greater variety of options at a similar price point.
