Key Largo @ Hemingways Casino

This restaurant is part of Hemingway hotel and its mall. Since its in mall its getting overshadow because of other outlets glowing advertising board. Situated in main building of Hemingway with vintage type appearance give you feeling of fine dine. A Big Piano set in middle looks awesome. Food specially break-fast has wide spread. Restaurant menu is not big. But what they have in menu they make it with putting soul into it. I come from India and with many food restriction due to own belief and religion. Got chance to stay for 15 days continue so with small menu i end up trying all dishes which I am okay to have. All taste good and cooked with passion.Master cook is easily accessible to you and he is ready to cook as per your wish (He tried 2-3 dish which were not part of menu for me as I was staying for longer duration).Final wording - If you are not from South Africa , Don't order food assuming price of item. Price may be less but you will end up with massive portion of food. So order food one by one... don't waste food as many people in Africa starving for food...

Management and their staff members are very friendly, they attend to guest as quick as you need them & their delicious meals make you fell more important to them

Its a nice restaurant, but there are plenty of options outside so not too attractive. Food is good, can be tried once.

Booked a table for 9 people.When we arrived the table was not ready for us yet. The table was laid out to seat 12 instead of 9.I had a dirty knife at my table setting, which didn't get replaced.Menu is limited. And the food is average.Desserts were limited and they had run out of the Cheesecake which was disappointing.The decor is extravagant and gives you an opulent atmosphere. Service is friendly and attentive. Except they took ages to clear away our empty plates. For a place that is highly expensive to eat at, we were left a bit disappointed. Really expected a much better experience.

When I visited the restaurant at Hemingways I was in for a major surprise. I was not expecting the food to be of this high quality. The service was also excellent.

I had a superb experience at Key Largo - the restaurant at the Southern Sun Hemingways.Right from the hostess who greeted me to the waiter who served me to the manager on duty that night, everything from a service point of view was on point. I was made to feel welcome and most at home.To start I had the stuffed calamari, oh my goodness this was divine. This dish alone made my meal. For mains I had the chicken ceasar, this was just ok.The only complaints I have is that the croutons in the salad were far too oily and they didn't have 750ml still water.As a guest at this hotel, I was pleased by the service and quality of the food.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Friday night buffet - the chicken was perfectly cooked and the pasta and sauce divine. Desserts were a complete letdown. Father's Day buffet on the Sunday was a disaster. We left in a hurry refusing to pay. Breakfasts are nothing to write home about. No decent bread or pastries.

Don't be mislead by the seemingly sophisticated atmosphere.... it is a disappointing experience. Even though the restaurant only had a few tables with couples, the service was painfully slow and our requests fell on deaf ears. Seem to have been a case of too many chiefs and not enough indians. 'Management' kept asking if everything was ok.... despite the fact that we had clearly not received our food in more than an hour. The food was unmemorable and the whole experience a boring drag. Couldn't wait to leave.

We won a voucher of R300.- for a dinner at Hemingway's Hotel in East London. What was supposed to be a nice present was indeed the worst punishment I ever got. But let me explain in sequence. I wanted a Cinzano or Martini as an aperitif, the waitress did not know Cinzano so I decided to have a Martini with ice. What did I get? A Martini DRY WITHOUT ice! Additionally we ordered a bottle of white wine and a mineral water for both of us.For dinner we both wanted to have fillet steak and snails for me as starter. Can u believe our disappointment when we were told that fillet 'is out of stock'?? On a Saturday evening at 7pm!!! Then we took a turn to rump.One with chips and vegs and pepper sauce, one without vegs with periperi sauce. Meanwhile I finished my Martini and wanted to have some wine and water, no glasses! Somebody had taken away my wine and water glass and the waitress managed to bring one after the other! Then the snails arrived, unfortunately without the special small fork (snails fork) to pick them up. The waitress went off again and came back 10 minutes later. Now unfortunately the snails were cold and I had to send them back for re-warming. The rumps arrived, without steak knives, a mushroom sauce instead of pepper sauce, and my rump with chips AND vegs. I sent it back, it came back again, but now with vegs only. This was the point where I gave up and decided to go to McDonalds. Will you believe it, the restaurant manager then came back a third time with my rump, most likely tough like leather now! Then we decided to leave this nice place and take a piece of my wife's rump (well done instead of medium) as doggy bag, only the meat. And what did we get? The meat and a lot of vegs!!! If it will be of interest for you I can still add that the whole story was on for about 1,5 hours and the waitress did not ask once if she could top up our glasses!!! At least the manager realized our pain and made us only pay for the drinks, thank you very much!
