“Fantastic”
Authentic Portuguese food served in a pleasant environment. The clams, squid heads and sardines were delicious. The baby chicken was scrumptious. Service was friendly and efficient

“Dinner”
Oh wow loved this cute place. The owner unbelievably friendly and amazing, as well as the staff, friendly efficient quick service. The absolute best prawns we have had anywhere in years & years and to finish off with their delicious Portuguese custard tarts. Yummy!!!! Our new place to eat when visiting Umhlanga- Thank you Joitas

“Top drawer”
Some odd reviews on this spot nearly caused us to go elsewhere. Glad we didn't. Slow service no ways. Lighting fast in fact. Rude no ways. Actually very friendly. The big one for me was the old fashioned cloth Portuguese table cloths. The food was good and seemed more traditional Portuguese than Mozambique Peri Peri style. Portions good size on the 1/2 chicken. More pricey than other similar restaurants in Durban but someone has to pay the Umhlanga CBD rent. Go give it a try. I would certainly go back when back in Umhlanga. PS felt a little more classy than other similar places.

“Full House”
I was here for a business lunch – we did not book and were lucky to get a table - compared to many places in the area it was very busy which says a lot for the nice menu and quality food served – typical Portuguese offering's prices average for the area - recommended

“Disappointed”
Had dinner last night with 3 friends, was quiet busy, service was a bit slow and food overall was average, had to send back one dish as food was cold

I have to ask if you in fact did dine at Joita’s. We were exceptionally busy but had 6 waiters plus a manager on the floor as well as myself between the kitchen and out on the floor and have no recollection of any food having been returned. I also addressed patrons sitting at each of the tables and no problem was brought to my attention. I have just addressed all the waiters and they have confirmed that no plate was returned to the kitchen at all for any reason.

“Dodgy story”
I am a regular at this restaurant and have watched it blossom and grow since the current owners took over about two years ago. It is hard to get a table without booking and in my opinion it is the best restaurant in Umhlanga .The fact that it has a solid regular clientele would support my opinion.I have read of the recent incident where 10 people apparently had their table given away and the bad reviews that followed.I cannot comment on the facts as they are unknown to me save that the individuals concerned have admitted to having barged uninvited into the kitchen (who has even done that under any circumstances )and have lied about oysters which have never been on the menu. That of course makes me question the credibility of this unruly mob’s version of the event and raises a serious question that there may be another agenda .A great restaurant relies not only on the quality of is food but also its outstanding service. This has both and one only has to look at the statistics above to see that most other people feel the same way. There are 165 reviews that are excellent or very good. That says it all.

“The best Portuguese food in town!”
The best Portuguese food in town! I’ve been a loyal customer here for many years and a restaurant where you really feel like family. Chicken, prawns and chorizo are second to none and there are vegetarian options as well. Service is always top notch! A must-visit when you’re in Durban
