Impulse by the Sea Restaurant

An unassuming venue which serves up authentic Durban Indian fare!Portions are generous, food is flavourful and the wine list is extensive by Durban standards.Highly recommend the Durban Lamb Curry and the Prawn and Chicken curry!

The food was scrumptious and fresh and every mouthful burst with flavours. A variety of dishes was tried and each one had a distinctive, unique taste that kept you wondering what the others will taste like. Will surely revisit to explore

Waited almost 2 hours for the food, only to be “challenged” by the “manageress” and greeted out with her back facing towards us with not one word as we walked out. Highly unprofessional. 1x waiter. SO dissatisfied. Won’t recommend at all. Complaints left right and center from each table about her and the service. Useless

For an authentic Natal Curry - an evening meal or a long lazy lunch - 'Impulse is not to be missed. The Butter Chicken and Prawn dish is our favourite. This is a one of a kind North Coast dining experience - there is no other restaurant like it - you will return.

Were here with my family for lunch, the place was fairly crowded and based on the reviews we expected maybe a tad more then what this restaurant can offer. The service was great and prompt, but the curries were lacking a bit of flavor. We tried 4 kinds of curries including the signature prawn one, and only the Butter Chicken was tasty, the rest of the curries felt bland, not a word I usually use to describe curries. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t really good either. The view from the terrace is quite nice and I don’t think you find a better restaurant in that area, but I would probably not come back here.

The building the restaurant is in (upstairs) is not imposing but the place is clean and if you lean a little bit you can see the sea. Service was good and friendly, the beers cold and the Prawn curry delicious. My wife ate the lamb curry which was awesome (I tried some and it was cooked to perfection) so all in all we had a very good meal. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys indian flavoured food.

After many recommendations in the past twenty years regarding their signature prawn curry, I was sad to learn on our visit here that the Reddi family had sold Impulse by the Sea as of 15 October 2019.Nevertheless, we stopped in here for a bunny chow expecting great things and with a location on Seaview Drive coupled with their name "..By the Sea", hopefully a beautiful 'sea view'. It disappointed on both counts..Ambience: Tinley Manor Beach itself is a lovely spot, but this restaurant is not on the beach so for those sea views that you may be wanting to enjoy (as we had wanted to), I'd recommend grabbing a takeaway and heading down to the beach itself. Food: Expensive, when compared to the likes of Sawagat's portions and not altogether impressive. Service: Okay. It took quite some time to get served. In summary, if I had to use a word it would be "okay". I cannot say that I would return.

We went via a recommendation and are so happy we did. Authentic Durban curry! We tried their delicious samoosa's, butter chicken curry and bunny chow and we were really impressed. Our waiter George was super friendly and a big asset to the restaurant.

An excellent Indian restaurant. The food is authentic and delicious. The service was great and the owner was a wonderful host. We highly recommend it.
