Hong Far Garden Restaurant

The food here is ALWAYS awesome! never had a less than FAB experience. The crispy duck is highly recommended.

Spring rolls were well made, crispy,very well filled but flavourless. And accompanied by off the shelf sweet chilli sauce. Cucumber salad was ok but not special (papaya salad was unavailable). Phad Thai was totally flavourless. No Thai flavours at all. Massaman curry was pedestrian. Needed more heat. They provided chillies on request that helped. Service was good and very attentive. Very pleasant environment.

I heard a review of this place on Radio 702 by chance & being an enthusiast of Thai food decided to give it a try. Although it is a 40 minute drive from Pretoria the road is good & following Google maps we had no problem finding it. Most of the staff are Thai & the owner Far prepares all the food. We had a basket of a few different dishes for the table as a starter which was superb & although we sat outside under the trees it was hot when served. This is the first Thai restaurant that had a green papaya salad on the menu & although not as good as the ones you get in Thailand it still satisfied my yearning to get back to Thailand. All our mains were good. The only strange thing was that the noodles were served in a separate little dish? They have a small selection of wines & a bonus they had Singha beer. This establishment is definitely a new "go to " place!

I had not been to Harties for a while during the lockdown and in any event restaurants were closed.Post-Covid it has grown with more seating space outside and has absolutely lovely sushi as well now.I always call as I approach Harties when going to my holiday home for the weekend,and collect as takeaway.

I have visited Hong Far Garden on multiple occassions and can say each one was superb. The food is delicious. The service is outstanding and the utter joy and relaxation is fantastic. The curries are amazing and the starters are tantilizing. It is an amazing place for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Try the authentic Thai beers and enjoy the bliss of peace and quiet. Worth the drive.

Lovely friendly host & waitress. Veg nice and crispy. The owner is always around and interacting but clients. They tried to use true Thai decor & influences at cosy place. Rustic feeling and totally different from other restaurants. Orders do take bit longer but worth it.

Having spotted this restaurant on the side of the road on the way to my Holiday home in the area, I decided to look them up here on trip advisor.There were not too many reviewers and one was particularly negative about it being cold due to same being tented.I decided to try it out myself and am happy I did...the lemongrass salad starter is an absolute must!!I will go back just for that!

Maybe this garden environment works on a nice summer's day but on cool autumn evening in an LPG smelling tent it doesn't.The Tent, named the Bamboo House, is located some walking distance from the kitchen along a garden path. Upon entering the LPG smell from the gas fire is distinctive.We all went for stir fry - 2 Crispy Pork and 2 Duck.The food arrived on cold plates and were tepid in temperature. All the noodles were cold.Maybe the walk in the open air along the garden path contributed to this.On complaint, further bowls of noodles were delivered together with an offer to heat up the main courses. This was turned down as the noodles seemed like they had been reheated in a microwave and had the texture of hot shoelaces.A most disappointing expensive evening in a Tent.

What a great hidden gem! The food was absolutely delicious and I would love to come back more often!
