Duck and Trout Restaurant

I am so sorry to give this place a negative review but unfortunately I am left with no choice. I had vouchers for 2 evenings at the restaurant. The first evening I ordered the trout, it came straight from the fridge with dry rice and terrible spinach and when I asked why the trout was icy cold, I was told it should be like this. The second evening I ordered a pizza while watching rugby, they forgot about my order and when I asked the manager, she apologized and said it was because they were busy. Unfortunately she left it there and only when I again mentioned my forgotten order, did the waiter make a plan by making the pizza himself. Hats off to the waiter. The great side is that the pizza was great. I realize that Covid plays a role but the owners will really have to make a plan or else the once great restaurant will not survive.

We visited Dullstroom for a weekend away and wanted to grab some dinner & drinks. Duck & Trout seemed nice from the outside, and it was cosy inside with people doing some karaoke. We waited long before we could order drinks, and the waiter told us he recommends not ordering pizza, because it will take more than an hour. We also waited very lpong for our drinks and decided to get pizza somewhere else.

We popped in there after a long day, to have something to eat, the chips were substandard, and in the heart of COVID-19 no one was taking any precautions, a bit disappointing and very dangerous. The entire atmosphere was tatty.

Food was cold when it arrived, when we had ordered the waitress was rude and food took 45mins to an hour! We were told that the pizza oven would be ready at 12 and we were told at 1pm that the oven is not ready. The drink service was appalling, waited for 10-15 mins for 4 drinks and the restaurant was not busy at all. In the 45min to an hour of us waiting for our food the waitress did not come round once to check if everything was okay. Really disappointed that we having to end our trip with this experience, would definitely recommend not coming!

Just before South Africa went into lockdown, I drove through Dullstroom and noticed a quaint pub called The Duck and Trout. I promised myself I would go in the next time I was in the area. Surely with that name, they would serve my two favourite foods. A year later, I knew I was going to be back in the area and I contacted Lydia who told me that not only were they open, but sure enough duck and trout were on the menu. The problem was that I have weird food allergies. "No problem," I was told. "We cater for everyone. We will make our famous duck pie for you from scratch"This meant that they could control what went in it.When I got there, the red carpet was rolled out for me. Charl came to the table and let me know exactly what had gone into the meal. I had preordered some extra duck and cherry pie as take away.I was not disappointed! The meal was absolutely fantastic! They have an extensive menu and even have live music some nights. It is a place I'll definitely return to. Come and try it for yourself.Duck & Trout, Dullstroom thank you so much

Have stayed and eaten here in the past. Group dinner on the Saturday was pleasant and enjoyable. We had pizza's, duck & cherry pie, burgers and a special (T bone steak & draft = R125). Unfortunately no sauvignon blanc wine available. Sadly some patrons still find it acceptable to smoke inside a restaurant despite this being illegal and inconsiderate.

Very simple. They have waiters that will serve you, but no noticeable management; which is fine if you want a simple uncomplicated snack lunch etc.The place is well used, and years of spilled beer and cigarette smoke permeate the furniture; it could do with a deep clean. We experienced nothing unpleasant, nor anything special. The highlight was the availability of ice cold draught.Great for a quick beer or fast meal; not for special occasions.

This charming venue is a delight! Wonderful hospitality! We enjoyed the delicious, legendary duck & cherry pie. Thank you, we'll be back!

Please please do not have main meals at this dive!! Starters good but main meals are terrible! Ordered a Eisbein came dry with this cheap horrible mustard, you better of with Mustard out of a packet at a garage. I raised this with the waiter then with the manager Mark, got the reponse that he has told the owner multiple times that they need proper mustard with nobody listening. Ruined our hole night and then they cant even give you a proper takeaway container! My wife’s chicken schnitzel was under par and heavy full of oil, luckily editable. Their mash had chunks of potatoes in and was bland!Thank you for ruining a great evening with my wife and my birthday dinner!!! This after us giving up my wife’s chair for her broken foot for them to seat more clients. The starter was good to be fair but that is where it ends sadly!Please please do not have the Eisbein, poachers down the street do it better cheaper with a lot more class and they are a pub!!!

Food was great and seating outside great. Frendly staff and pricing inline! Well done till next time. Keep it up Duck and trout. Recommend the trout prepert in a wood fire oven!!
