De Hoft Restaurant(Temporary Closure)

We were three ladies, having a quiet evening out, chatting and enjoying good food and wine. We all the the prawns which were absolutely lovely. Well prepared and well presented. I love the quiet atmosphere in the restuarant with very good service and well priced.

Beautiful mountain backdrop, with Horses. Choice of either rustic outdoor or homely indoor dining- the indoor room is fussy and quirky ( more candelabras than Liberace on a good night ). Service is pleasant, understated and efficient. Food was excellent - tasty, nicely presented and good quality. The Wednesday night prawn special is well worth trying. A special place for that special occasion or person.

We have visited this restaurant on a few occasions. Last visit was for concert. Beautiful views, lovely setting, food is great, and staff is very friendly and efficient. It is a great place to bring the whole family. The lovely views of the Outeniqua mountains and the farm setting is magical. The staff is very helpfull and the venue lends itself to a place for numerous occasions. Weddings, Concerts, Parties or a lunch!

There are no printed menus at De Hoft, so you don't know the prices, so better to check first so you know what you are letting yourself in for!We all ordered the prawns, which were a huge success. Beautifully cooked, with shells that peeled off easily. The portion was so large, that we all took doggy bags home. we never got to see the wine list either. The country and western music didn't go well with the beautiful decor though!

Sit outside and see the beautiful mountains at sunset. On an estate with horses. A very special atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the food very good! A lovely place to take children because there is a lot of space to play outside.

This place is just amazing, lovely atmosphere! Such friendly staff & always smiling. Eating here was an absolute treat. Will always come back! Well done De Hoft!

The food and service was just excellent. The steak was plain but amazingly soft and the salmon seared to perfection. Chef Marius surprised us with two new desserts not yet on the menu: Deep fried ice cream with a strawberry surprise and fresh strawberries. And poached pears with crème brûlée crust, white chocolate, salted caramel and a plum sauce. We were blown away by the flavours on our plates! Definitely worth a visit.

Table of 13 and we were the only people there. The food quality was mostly good but the wait of nearly 2 hours was not acceptable. Unlikely to try this venue again.

It would have been better if we had just been turned away at the door. We can only assume that there is an unwritten "no children or babies" policy because we were given a table outside in the cold with our 10 month old grandson, despite there being free tables inside. We should have walked away then, but the reviews we had read persuaded us to brave it out. The 2 hours we waited for our food were not worth it. The dog curled up on the sofa inside got his food faster than us. We felt we were treated like second class citizens with service to match - we had to ask for cutlery and then again for serviettes. Such a pity this spoiled our evening because the setting and view were lovely. We will certainly be talking about our experience for a long time to come- unfortunately not for the right reasons!

On the recommendation of a friend, we dined at De Hoft this evening. We were charmed by the decor and friendly service. The food, however, left us in awe. The best cooked steak we have ever had! And we cannot wait to go back!
