Chinchilla

Chinchilla is the best. We were first given a grea welcome by the reception. This is where we met Gabriel (the bouncer) who is such a humble super awesome person. Gabriel assured our safety and made us feel at home. My family had a wonderful time and great experience. Thanks to Gabriel, we are definitely coming back soon. Recommend this rooftop restaurant as the best in Cape Town.

During our visit to Chinchilla, we were served by a waiter called Brenton. He was the epitome of 'amazing customer service', and treated us with a high level of professionalism, intuition, and friendliness. He constantly checked on us, and displayed a genuine passion for service.We would definitely visit wherever he is serving in the future! :)

Honestly the service was appalling. We called, and booked a table under Donna to have sun downers and as we arrived they didn’t have a table for us. Their was no communication on the phone to say they would see what they could accommodate us or that we had to spend mini of R2500. So when we arrived this was a shock as we did not have any acknowledgement of this, however we didn’t mind spending the money but how he handled the situation was uncalled for. The manager made a scene, he was loud and he was In my friends face waving his phone and pulled his mask down to speak, where my friend had to ask him to step back because he was close to her face and he just seemed all over the place. I’ve worked at Chinchilla before and I’m actually disgusted, that’s how we were treated. The manager needs to communicate to guests appropriately and to try sort out an issue at best at his ability. Not make us feel insignificant and make a scene as people were watching. We left and took our business elsewhere.If this was communicated to us on the phone we would made alternative plans.Many thanksDominique

My husband and I came here for a couple drinks before our dinner. The views are amazing especially around sunset! It is really busy, we had a reservation and I recommend that if you have the chance. We were able to sit at a great table with virws but many other people had to stand or go to the bar. The drinks were good and a little more expensive then other areas but not unexpected for the location.

This cafe has a high reputation, and a great location. So reservations are recommended. Especially if you want a table overlooking the promenade and beach. We had a reservation for 4pm, well before sunset, which is what a lot of people come here for. The cafe opened late, about 4:10, but we got our reserved table up front, with a great view. The staff were friendly, the menu was decent, and has a pretty good selection of wines by the bottle. We ordered wine and water, and a few tapas, and enjoyed the view for a while, as the cafe filled up. Eventually, the sun was low enough to make it difficult to see anything towards the beach. The staff started to lower the awnings, to make it more comfortable. But it became comedic, with the awnings going up, then down, then up, then down. Guests who were seated a few tables further away from the "window", were complaining that they cannot see the view when the awnings were down. So it was a constant tug-of-war between those seated up front, and those further back. We didn't stick around long enough to see who won. We learned that the cafe has a strange policy, when we were informed that "We have a policy that we cannot charge people's phones". WTF? What kind of policy is that? It's simple to plug in a phone where there's an available receptacle. I bet the poor wait staff have to repeat that line dozens of times per day -- it's bound to be a common request. Phones die. Restaurants have power. Deal with it. Add it to the bill if you have to. Generally, this place is a good place to come if you're in Camps Bay. The views are great, the wine is great. But we left wondering what all the fuss was about. We didn't feel it was special, and we sure didn't feel special.

The service was just so good. The atmosphere and vibe is so inviting. Food was amazing. As the sunset & it became a little bit chilly, the portable heaters were discreetly brought out, strategically places and it became comfortable again. I'll def be back and recommend this place any time.

Absolutely stunning views from the 3rd floor across the bay. Hip, trendy, but the DJ overpower the place with the volume level (that can't be turned down). Go for sundowners, fair selection of wine, full cocktail menu. Food is good, but at the price I was expecting nothing less. A good solid Camps Bay strip venue, but not the place for me.

I would highly, highly recommend this rooftop bar with spectacular views and an amazing ambience, not to mention the sunsets. The service was top rate.

On several occasions I have tried to get directly in touch with the Kove Collection management (holding company of the Chinchilla Rooftop Cafe & Bar as well as of other restaurants and hotels in the Cape region) but haven't received any response yet (first email sent 2 weeks ago). So they don't seem to care about a client's major concern.Just in a nutshell what has happened (Kove Collection Management has the detailed story): went with a friend for dinner and drinks in the beginning of January. Got served rotten food (one of the oysters was completely off but only noticed it while in the process to swallow) that the completely incompetent General Manager of the restaurant, Patso Ivanov made us pay for (though "generously" he took 5 oysters off our bill....)... Had to go through the trauma to make myself throw up (at the restaurant) to avoid severe food poisoning. Still got sick that evening. Just shocking to see such ignorance and careless behaviour in the hospitality industry. How can you possibly question your guests and argue about obvious failures?? Besides kitchen service was unbelievably slow (1 hour and 10 minutes to serve a dozen of oysters.... they anyway better shouldn't have left the kitchen in the first place). Never ever again.

An amazing place to have a bite during the day and a glass of wine. The interior design is stunning. So is the view! The service was very good! Same applies for the wine!
