Cattle Baron Grill House - Constantia

After a good massage and a mani and pedi we ended up lunching @ cattle baron there lunch menu is well worth it just enough options for anyone's appetite ...

As the name implies, well known for steak and other meat dishes. Come hungry - you will not be disappointed. Large selection of drinks to match the choice of courses. Well worth a visit with very attentive staff.

Whenever guests at our Guesthouse "Constantia Cottages" are looking for good steaks in the valley we recommend "The Cattle Baron" in Constantia Village and "Hussar Grill" in Steenberg Village. Both offer excellent quality meat for reasonable prices. No complaints at all, but full of praise for both!

We visit this restaurant every time we come to Constantia. It is an old favourite and never fails to please. We ate upstairs this time, as we did last, and the food was just as generous and delicious as always, but our waiter was very off-hand and did not offer any advice nor suggestions about size of portions, accompanying wines, etc. We are so used to first class service in South Africa that we were a little disappointed.

Our lunch at Cattle Barrons was delicious.Both my husband and I had the tender and very yummy rump.My daughter and I had starters - mine was fabulous mussels in a creamy white wine sauce and Olivia was not very garlicky buttered snails.The down side was the garlic sauce served with the rump - it was a heap of raw grated garlic with a cold solid square of butter.Most of the lunch time customers were eating the buffet and they were a rowdy bunch.

There were three of us- no booking on a busy Saturday night but were welcomed and immediately a table found for us. Nelson, the Waitron, was friendly and professional. My daughter and I shared a Chateaubriand cooked to perfection whilst my grand- daughter tucked into her juicy hamburger. We were surprised at how quickly the meal came out---an efficient kitchen! The ambience is lovely at night and the Owner very attentive . A fabulous meal and great evening out. One of the Best places in Constantia.

I have been going to the Cattle Baron at Constantia Village for years. My last visit there a few days ago will be my last. The rump steaks we ordered were tough and tasteless. I thought it was just that my knife was not sharp enough but after the third knife, I realised that it was my steak. It was a fight to get through it. I told my server who brought the manager over. She offered to get the kitchen to prepare me another steak but I and my guests were already halfway through our meals and it didn’t make sense for me to wait for another meal to be prepared. Their right move would have been to give me a voucher for me to return to give them another try. They didn’t and I won’t.

we had been back the day before yesterday for a long time and i was shocked.a few small things that are insignificant in comparison was also.But the fact that a steakhouse does not fry a steak medium even in the second attempt is frightening.the first was totally well done, the second steak raw.the manager confirmed that to me, but first I wanted to pay for it ..A shame, there had never been anything like this here before

Had lunch at Cattle Baron and was quite simply appalled at the lack of service and extremely average food! There were more flies than managers and I deeply regret going there with friends!Never again!

To anyone looking to have Christmas lunch, I highly Recommend that you do NOT choose the Cattle Baron. It is not worth the money you pay. The menu that they offer is not what you get and they are awfully unorganized. I paid a deposit for a lunch buffet and everything that what offer on the menu was not available. We waited 45 minute before we could be seated even though we made a reservation a week before. The meat was over cooked which is ironic considering the restaurant specializes in meat dishes and the sides were exceptionally average. Overall A terrible experience.
