“Not the best and dinner service stops at 7:30pm”

Writing this review as we sit in the restaurant having made a dinner reservation and arriving at the restaurant at 6:20pm. The ambience with the fish tank is appealing. We ordered the seafood which was fresh but lacked in flavor and authenticity. We tried ordering dessert at 7:35pm and was told very rudely by the waitress that the kitchen was closed for any further orders. The restaurant is currently full with most tables still on their main meal and the kitchen is closed. Poor service. Place does not meet expectations.

“Stunning View, DELICIOUS Food”

One of my favorite restaurants indeed. Sitting at the fish tank wall is my favorite thing to do, it is relaxing and to have a good glass of wine while doing so is the best thing ever. The wine selection and food pairing is brilliant. The seafood is gorgeous. The service needs to be worked on. All in all, I will return.

“Underwhelming food and Service”

Dont expect a warm welcoming front door greeting, as one may expect for a fine dining restaurant. Most average waitrons, no smiles all round the room, just going through the motions. Food soo far below average. Sirloin was overdone, as were the prawns and kingklip. Dessert was nice however we wont be be visiting again sadly.

“Lack of customer service/disappointed”

We turned up without a reservation but this wasn't a problem as it was not busy.The waitress asked for our drinks and then meal order.When the main meal arrived I realized that we didn't have a napkin and requested one from another waitress.Our waitress never came to ask if we were enjoying the meal, I would say they just serviced the table on a basic level but no other attempt to make you feel welcome.The food was average, we had the fish of the day and it comes with rice and chips.The rice was bland.When we left I tried to had eye contact with a man who seemed to be the supervisor, but he looked away and no one thanked our visit.Disappointed about the service experience, the big tank is worth seeing and our dish was just average flavour.

“Cool experience”

It was a really cool restaurant with really good food. Ate there for lunch and managed to book a table the same day with a seat next to the tank.

“Great food, great ambiance”

To eat at Cargo Hold is always an experience. The food is delicious but we have one sour taste and this is the fact that I had to prepay 150 ZAR per person x 20 for the reservation. I was told that the money would be deducted from the bill. But the waiters didn't know. So the payment was chaotic.

“An aquarium serving food”

An aquarium serving food in a remodelled ship’s hold! On the face of it, interesting. But at lunch it is a miserable drab interior, lacking any sort of energy from the lethargic staff. Unexciting menu, no bread, dreadful dessert selection.Overall, this is a tired tourist trap leveraging off the theme park. We were recommended to try it by the hotel driver who has obviously never been there!Food not a disaster because we knew to tread carefully: Greek salad, fries and kingclip fillet were all ok. But the ambience is dire.Could be ok with children who could be interested in the fish but in general not recommended

“Just average”

Trio of shellfish platter overall was tasty. Prawns a bit small. Muscles extra not to good. Didn't have langoustines. Expected more.

“Excellent Service”

Absolutely serene atmosphere, staff are most welcoming and sweet. The food well served in very kind portions. A pleasant experience overall.

We went to Cargo Hold for a family lunch to celebrate my son’s 18th birthday. For us it turned out to be a perfect venue. It was comfortably airconditioned & the giant fish tank was a huge hit with kids & grandparents! You are endlessly entertained watching the fish, sharks & rays swim by. As well as the novel ‘decor’ the food was excellent. We tried the mussel pasta, grilled calamari, kingklip, sirloin & the venison (kudu) fillet. Each dish was beautifully presented & the rare & medium rare steaks cooked to perfection. Our waiter was cheerful & gave great service.
Negatives - the tables need a revamp or a table cloth. The coffee cups were like the old railway cups. But those were minor details to us & overall we’d rate it a 5 star experience & a lovely venue for a special occasion.

I had my birthday dinner with my family on Tuesday evening. We truly had a wonderful evening. Good service and the food was exquisite!! We will most certainly be back. Thank you all for a awesome evening!!!
