Cafe 1904

Our first great dinner experience in a week time spent in South Africa. Delicious and fresh seafood, ousters, awesome wine choice. Loved the decor and the holiday vibe. The host and the locals we met there are just lovely people. Highly recommend it.

We were trying to get to Cafe 1904 for so many times, and we had to cancel it time after time because of Covid, we were in touch with Endria for weeks trying to reschedule our booking, and she was so lovely. We were so happy to meet her in person, when we arrive to the restaurant, she is the perfect host. As for the food, everything we had was excellent, we had calamari and halloumi for starters, both were amazing, and for mains, we had the fish, and the beef fillet. the beef was out of this world, the best one we had in South Africa, The place is also stunning, its like you are coming to their home, we loved every minute there. Service was excellent and helpful. we cannot wait to come back, and we are still talking about this perfect meal. you cannot miss this place if visiting Hermanus.

Just stopped in for a quick coffee but ended up trying the food and it was absolutely delicious .....most def worth a visit when in hermanus. atmosphere is warm and cozy with the most unique quaint decor.

When we (incl. dog) arrived we were warmly welcome by the staff and owner and the excellent service continued throughout the evening. And the food was delicious!!!

A little gem close to the ocean. Excellent food, great service, friendly staff. Will definitely see me again.

Was introduced to this little gem this week and will definatey go back! Super friendly staff and owners and great decor to appreciate. Interesting menu with a great variety and personal touch as to how each dish is prepared, one can appreciate the uniqueness of how every dish is designed! Very affordable and Thank you for a great evening and good food!

From the outside it is easy to underestimate this restaurant in an old historic building a stone's throw away from the old harbour in Hermanus. Do take the trouble to enter and have a look at the menu and ambience inside. We shared fresh oysters and bubbly for starters. The oysters were very fresh, quite large and very reasonably priced. My wife had the seafood platter for one and I had peri-peri Portuguese prawns. Everything deliciously fresh and deliciously done. I actually wanted the prawns with lemon butter (an available option), but forgot to order it like that. Am I glad I forgot! The peri-peri sauce was fantastic - not too hot but spicy and delicious. The prawns were fresh and firm. My wife was equally impressed with her choice. The wine list has a good varioety of local Hemel-en-Aarde and Walker Bay wines and the prices are quite reasonable. I will definitely be back when in the vicinity next.

When my husband and I are in Hermanus, we always have a meal at Cafe 1904. The owners are super and the meals fantastic. Not to forget the beautiful decor and ambiance. You won't be disappointed.

Cafe 1904 is on my list of favourite restaurants ever; everytime I find myself in Hermanus I make time to have at least one meal in this wonderful restaurant! I simply love owner operated restuarents! I measure the peformance of a good plate of food with one simple consideration; when you take a bite off of your plate; it is when you cannot wait to take the next bite that you know you have found a gem. Moreover, when you eat slowly and purposefully in the hope that the meal will never end; it becomes an experience one carries with you until the next time you visit. The staff are super friendly, effecient and exercise both customer service along with customer care (and there is a difference). Blessing to Chef and his beautiful wife and I would be remiss not to mention that Molly is the bomb. Thank you so much Cafe 1904 - until we see each other again.

I honestly do not have the words to describe this wonderful place. The service was amazing. Omgee the fish and chips was to die for. It’s like a little heaven on earth. My daughter enjoyed herself and it is child friendly as well. Hubby and I could enjoy our meal and even have her running around. The hostess and owners are so friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back for some more fantastic food.
