The Vic opens its doors in Kloof street
Cape Town’s trendy upper Kloof street has recently seen the opening of The Vic Bar & Grill, a new gastro pub and live music venue created and independently owned by restaurateur Jurie Blomerus.
Blomerus, who previously owned the Stanley Beer Yard in Johannesburg and currently owns The Striped Horse Muizenberg, envisioned The Vic as a place for city dwellers and out-of-towners to enjoy eclectic music over a plate of hearty, unpretentious food washed down with ice-cold craft beer.
“Nearly every small town has a Vic,” explains Blomerus. “Now Kloof street can be of the same ilk.”
The Vic’s menu consists of simple, flavourful eats ranging from woodfired gourmet pizzas to prego rolls and beer-battered hake and chips. The Bar stocks a wide range of craft beers on tap, authentic Mexican tequilas and gin cocktails.
Live music offerings include improvisational jam sessions on Wednesday nights, aptly named The Jam Stand. On Sundays, the Vic invites band frontmen (and women) to make the lounge their home for the day and perform with their friends from the industry.
Friday nights are dedicated to vinyl records, with music ranging from low-fi folk rock to Indie world beats and Americana.
“The Vic was scribbled into darkness, now on a wall of a yesteryear home. Inside awaits the sound of a tune, that makes you want to sit down, and reach for a drink, a thought or maybe just a hand,” says Blomerus. “So come inside, sit back and leave the world at the door with an eighty four above it.”
Head west on Nelson Mandela Boulevard/N2. Keep right to continue on Nelson Mandela Boulevard. Merge onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard/N1/N2. Continue onto Buitengracht and process straight ahead on the M62. Turn left onto De Lorentz Street and then turn left onto Kloof Street. The VIC restaurant will be on the left.
