Best mates and now business partners, Daniel Holland (of YOURSTRULY) and James Louw (of JL Joinery) had always joked about starting a bar together, but it wasn’t until last year that they decided to make their weekend banter a reality. After months of blood, sweat and tears, The Sorrows was born. The concept; a sumptuous, beautiful aesthetic juxtaposed with a tongue and cheek play on the idea of drowning ones sorrows at the end of a bar.
Intricate woodwork, French Oak, marble and navy leather form the base for an elegant eatery and bar with a twist, off the cuff illustrations seem to mock the beautiful décor; with the words ‘dreaming of better days’ and ‘sad today, sad tomorrow’ adorning the walls. A group of headless Venus’ beside the bar, give the idea of getting legless a slightly different meaning. It’s the idea of never taking yourself too seriously, no matter the circumstances.
Joining this creative duo is Dino Moulopoulos who came on board as a third partner to add his own style and managing experience to the day-to-day operations. He has managed to assemble a wonderful team of staff, which add to the experience of The Sorrows; playful and attentive, our team always does their best to lift your spirits and make you feel at home. With the help of Head Chef Shayne Schutte, The Sorrows has grown an eclectic style with simple, delicious drinks meeting an ever changing, exciting menu with seasonal ingredients.
Every detail seems to contradict the classic design of the bar, making The Sorrows an easy and comfortable space to enjoy an evening of revelry with friends or a solo night out to drown your sorrows.
