The owners, Paul and his wife Helen, took the helm at The Red Herring Restaurant and Skebanga’s Sunset Bar on 1st December 2009. The Red Herring is situated on Beach road in Noordhoek, Cape Town. It shares The Red Herring Trading Post with a coffee shop, some craft and curio shops and a few small businesses.
The downstairs restaurant and garden pergola seat 40 and 64 people respectively. The restaurant is a cozy country style with a large fireplace for those cold rainy winter nights. The restaurant is complemented by its own cocktail bar and is
therefore ideal for private functions. The pergola area is sheltered from the wind and is ideal for afternoon gatherings of friends and family.
The menus at the restaurant change on a regular basis to accommodate the time of the year, specials and to ensure the freshest ingredients. The pizzas are baked in a wood burning pizza oven and are an absolute must. Two of the pizza
available recently went through to the finals of the South African le of the Glabal Pizza Challenge 2010 with the cook-off held at the Hostex convention in the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The upstairs bar, named after one of the first locals in the pub. Skebanga was a tough as nails, bar brawling, gang leading, whiskey drinking Jack Russell Terrier who spent more time in the pub than any dog (or human for that matter) should.
Skebanga’s pub is where you gather with your friends to enjoy a cold beer, fine wine or something a little stronger. When you aren’t watching a sports event on the TV or jostling for real estate around the fireplace (winter), swing your bar stool around and savor the breathtaking sea view. The pub leads onto a deck with seating for more than 80 people. The view from the deck stretches from Chapmans Peak, across Noordhoek beach to Kometjie lighthouse and on to Slankop mountain. This is when you reach for the extensive cocktail menu and wait for the sun to set right in the center of the view.
