After living overseas for two and half years we, Amy and Brent, the Founders of Hungry Hebrivore, discovered so many new foods and flavours as well as a whole new level of artificial ingredients. At first, like most, we didn't read any labels and didn't put much thought into what went into food as long as it tasted good. Our journey started when we realized after a whole year of living abroad, that a breakfast of deep-fried pork and rice just wasn't doing our bodies any good. We needed a CHANGE. Through discovering new recipes and ingredients, we developed a new love for eating more plant-based, clean and nutritious food. We returned to South Africa and started The Hungry Herbivore in January 2014 as a small little food stand at markets around Cape Town with just the two of us prepping everything. Fast forward two years later and we now have 10 staff members and our very own little vegan restaurant and a dedicated production facility for our national retail line.
The Hungry Herbivore aims to provide delicious, clean and honest comfort food and snacks that are rich in nutrients. Our products are completely vegan and plant-based. We aim to find the balance between health and comfort.
The interior of Hungry Herbivore is an intimate relaxed space with a bar and serving area focal point with bar stools, lots of mirrors and interesting chandelier type lighting. Delicious food options include the Protein deluxe bowl, soup of the day and chef’s speciality pizza. So if you are looking for a healthy wholesome meal, look no further than the guilt free Hungry Herbivore.
Travel on the Nelson Mandela Bouvelard/N2 towards Cape Town. Continue onto Buitengracht Street/M62 and then turn left onto Orphan Street. The Hungry Herbivore will be on the right.
