The Fat Fish in Plettenberg Bay is a favourite restaurant among locals, and most people who stop by for a meal immediately understand why. The views are great, the food is good and the ambience is relaxed and friendly – what more could you want from a seaside restaurant in a holiday beach town?
The Fat Fish is conveniently situated at Central Beach, and offers a light and open indoor area, as well as an outdoor deck. The restaurant’s elevated position affords diners beautiful views of the beach, Indian Ocean and the Tsitsikamma Mountains, making it a great place for sundowners.
The eatery boasts simple décor with a few noteworthy touches, particularly the rock wall which juts into the corner of the restaurant. While the large windows and sky lights ensure that it is a light, family friendly space during the day and early evening, the bar back lighting gives it a more grown up edge as it gets a bit later.
The food offered at The Fat Fish is as versatile as the décor, with a special kiddies menu, a tapas menu which goes very well with some wine or a cocktail, and a main menu which emphasises seafood dishes. Amoung the tapas to try are arancini (risotto balls), wonton prawns, grilled halloumi and chorizo, and the mezze platter.
The main menu boasts items like choo chee prawns (curry), tagliatelle with seafood puttanesca and classic fish and chips. There are also grills and some interesting-sounding desserts! Of course there is a wine list too, which features local wines made in the Plettenberg Bay area.
The Fat Fish is proudly a SASSI member and also supports StreetSmart.
